AEMO at the Heart of Energy

AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians.  Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.

About the role

Reporting to the Enterprise Change Practice Manager, with a dotted line to the Portfolio Enablement Lead, the Portfolio Change Manager is a member of the Portfolio’s Enablement Stream leadership team and is responsible for leading and delivering (through a team of Change Management professionals) all change management artefacts, activities, outputs and outcomes. This includes the development of high-quality artefacts, materials and reporting to support people readiness, successful go-live, and effective handover to the business, enabling progressive and sustainable change delivery across the portfolio. A key focus of the role is to drive a cohesive, portfolio-wide approach to change, proactively addressing risks, managing interdependencies, timing, and aligning with broader enterprise initiatives (via the Enterprise Change Practice).

The ideal candidate is a senior leader with deep expertise in delivering large-scale, complex change and transformation. You will be confident working with highly technical and scientifically minded stakeholders, able to navigate ambiguity and uncertainty with ease, and skilled at leading a team of change professionals to achieve both individual and shared outcomes. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to influence and deliver results in complex environments are essential.

This is a 12month Fixed Term Contract with the flexibility to be based in Sydney or Melbourne.

What you will be doing

  • Oversee the delivery of end-to-end change management activities aligned to the Enterprise Change Framework, ensuring high-quality artefacts and adherence to best practice and quality standards.

  • Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end portfolio change management, including defining scope, strategies and plans aligned to the Enterprise Change Framework and best practice principles.

  • Provide leadership to the Change team, including resource planning, demand management, onboarding/offboarding, and establishing an effective team operating rhythm.

  • Lead and support the Change team, overseeing performance, capability development and recruitment in partnership with the Enterprise Change Practice.

  • Ensure delivery of high-quality change artefacts and activities across the portfolio, including impact assessments, change strategies, communications, learning, and business readiness.

  • Drive governance, reporting and quality assurance across portfolio change initiatives, providing insights to leadership and managing risks, issues and dependencies.

  • Collaborate across internal teams, external vendors and enterprise functions to deliver aligned communications, engagement and learning outcomes, and continuously uplift change capability and practices.

What you will bring to the role

  • Extensive senior-level experience delivering end-to-end change management and transformation across large-scale, complex programs, including technology and operating model initiatives.

  • Deep expertise across core change disciplines, including impact assessments, strategy and planning, communications, engagement, learning and training, people readiness and change handover.

  • Excellent leadership skills, with demonstrated experience leading and coaching teams of change professionals to deliver shared outcomes.

  • Advanced skills in strategic thinking, continuous planning, facilitation and co-design, with a proven ability to resolve complex change challenges and drive organisational outcomes.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, build relationships and drive behavioural change across diverse audiences.

  • Relevant qualifications, accreditation and certifications in change management or related disciplines (e.g., Change Management Institute, APMG, PROSCI), with experience applying recognised methodologies (desirable).

  • Applicants must be an Australian citizen with the ability to attain and maintain an appropriate level of national security clearance issued by AGSVA.

In return some of our benefits to you

  • Flexible working: work from home, part time, job share, hybrid options, and additional leave options.

  • Professional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance and more.

  • Give back with up to 4 days of volunteering leave per year.

  • Embrace a healthier you with our wellness program, discounted health insurance, gym perks and our comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
