ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities.  We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better.  It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

About the role

You will deliver specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment for residents participating in the Sunrise Centre AOD Rehabilitation Program (25 bed facility for men and women). Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will provide structured interventions, clinical guidance and therapeutic support that aligns with best practice and The Salvation Army (TSA) values.

This is a permanent, full-time, role working 8:00am – 4:00pm (38 hours per week), Monday to Friday, based in Darwin and reporting to the Sunrise Program Manager. Pay above award conditions and is negotiable based on experience. We welcome applications from provisional psychologists completing their supervised practice pathway, fully registered psychologists, and mental health clinicians with relevant qualifications and AOD experience.

How you will make an impact

  • Provide evidence-based psychological assessment, diagnosis, formulation and treatment in line with TSA Model of Care
  • Deliver clinical services to an allocated caseload within a residential AOD setting including group education sessions
  • Conducting individual sessions with AOD participants at their initial stage and throughout their program
  • Use psychometrically sound screening and assessment tools to inform interventions
  • Exercise independent clinical judgement in adapting therapeutic approaches
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support resident wellbeing
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with TSA standards
  • Contribute to a safe, ethical and recovery-focused environment
  • Provide support and guidance to staff

What you will bring

  • Degree in Psychology or Mental Health (AOD experience preferred)
  • Provisional or full registration with AHPRA, or eligibility to register
  • Knowledge of AOD, mental health, community services and/or residential treatment settings
  • Strong clinical assessment, formulation and intervention skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and uphold professional boundaries
  • Current First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
  • NT Driver’s Licence

What we offer

  • Pay above award conditions and is negotiable based on experience
  • Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax free and $2,650 meal and entertainment benefit
  • Generous paid parental leave (12 weeks primary carers)
  • Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks)
  • Five days paid leave annually to experience other TSA programs
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Access to EAP and wellbeing initiatives
  • Ongoing training and development to support your growth
  • Purpose-driven work that creates lasting social impact

How to apply

If you’re passionate about delivering high-quality psychological care and supporting people on their recovery journey, please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your alignment with the role and your registration status (provisional, fully registered, or mental health clinician).

The Salvation Army is an Equal Opportunity Employer who provides an inclusive work environment and embraces the diverse talent of its people.
