Job Description - Registered Nurse




This residential facility is a spacious facility on the East Coast of Tasmania. They are currently seeking a Registered Nurse







FUNCTION:







  • To ensure the direct care needs of clients are met, through the implementation, oversight and continuous evaluation of care plans and individualised nursing needs of clients.

  • Supervision and direction of other enrolled and registered nurses, personal care attendants and support workers

  • To work within the philosophy of the organisation to achieve the highest possible standard of care delivery to residents

  • Contribute to the maintenance of residential care standards required to achieve accreditation







PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:







  • Maintain and ensure full compliance with all accreditation outcomes.

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for consumers according to accepted nursing

  • practice and standards

  • Work in consultation with other health professionals and members of health teams, and co-

  • ordinate the care of consumers

  • Provide interventions, treatments and therapies such as medications, and monitor responses to

  • treatment

  • Review, update and clarify each client’s care plan

  • Promote health and assists in preventing ill health, by participating in training and other relevant

  • activities

  • Answer questions and provides information to clients and families about treatment and care,

  • within your scope of practice







HEALTH AND PERSONAL CARE







  • Delivery of high-quality care to clients

  • Assistance in overseeing specialised nursing needs to clients

  • Accurate documentation of resident needs in assessments, care plans and progress notes

  • Following of care plans in the delivery of care to all clients

  • Oversee, update, reassess and ensure the accurate implementation of all care related

  • documentation – e.g. care plans, assessments, wound charts, palliative care plans etc

  • Ensuring clients choice is maintained in care delivery by providing appropriate assistance with

  • personal care in accordance with care plans

  • Ensuring clients independence is maintained in care delivery

  • Ensuring clients are prepared for all appointments, outings and activities

  • Reporting of care need changes to the Clinical Care Coordinator

  • Prompt assistance is given to residents when it is requested

  • Assistance provided to doctors when required

  • Identify trends in care needs e.g. infections and reporting of same including client evaluations

  • Acting at all times to protect the rights of residents, including confidentiality, privacy, individual

  • choice and decision making







MEDICATION DELIVERY:







  • Completion of medication competency requirements

  • Safe delivery of medication to residents

  • Following of all policies and procedures relating to medication

  • Ability to identify medication incidents and accurately report same







MAINTENANCE OF DOCUMENTATION SYSTEM:



  • Assist with the maintenance of a document control system throughout the facility that demonstrates continuous improvement and meets the requirement of accreditation

  • Maintain accurate documentation notes, assessments and care plans

  • Demonstrate accuracy and efficiency in the submission of documentation to relevant government

  • departments within appropriate timeframes, where required







COMMUNICATION:







  • Communicate effectively with care recipients, showing patience, tolerance and understanding

  • Demonstrate a high degree of effective teamwork

  • Respect and maintain privacy and a high degree of confidentiality in relation to all dealings with staff, clients and others and in relation to the organisation




ORGANISATION:







  • Organise time and workload to allow for maximum work productivity in the time allocated

  • Use safely and economically all equipment and supplies necessary to complete duties

  • Work unsupervised as required







SAFETY:







  • Ensure personal work practices comply with the organisational work, health and safety policies and procedures

  • Maintain a safe environment for all workers and clients within the organisation by reporting and documenting incidents or hazards in accordance with the policies of the organisation

  • Abide by fire safety procedures and attend fire drills annually

  • Attend manual handling education sessions annually




PROFESSIONAL:







  • Embrace the philosophy of lifelong learning, seeking opportunities to learn and expand knowledge and skills of self and others

  • Maintain an up to date working knowledge of equipment necessary to complete duties

  • Attend in-service education and staff meeting as appropriate

  • Be willing to undergo a Federal Police Check every 3 years as per the Accountability Amendment Principles 2006.







EVALUATION:







  • Participate in an annual evaluation of your performance with CEO

  • Identify problems with supervisor and initiate early action to resolve these

  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to continuous improvement

  • Ability to supervise and direct staff in providing care where required







Requirements







Essential:







  • Qualifications as a Registered Nurse – Must Retain Current Registration

  • Current Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)

  • Demonstrated high level of analytical, written and verbal skills

  • Understanding of the accreditation standards

  • Valid National Police Check (Within 3 Years)

  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccinations
