Your role at St John of God Midland Public Hospital
Join a dynamic and supportive Intensive Care Unit as an ICU Registrar, where you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care under the guidance of experienced Consultant staff. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your critical care skills within a well-structured and accredited training environment.
Our unit provides a comprehensive and engaging learning experience, with strong clinical exposure and a commitment to professional development
CICM C6-accredited unit (approved for up to 6 months of General Training)
Hands-on involvement in the daily management of ICU and HDU patients
Participation in multidisciplinary rounds, including TPN rounds with consultant supervision
Active role in reviewing ward and Emergency Department consultations and contributing to the ICU outreach service
6-bed ICU and 6-bed HDU with capacity for ventilated patients
Advanced therapies including CVVHDF
Supported by echo-fellowship trained Consultants
We are offering 6 or 12-month fixed-term full time contracts available commencing February or August 2027
Procedural & Clinical Exposure
You will gain extensive experience in core ICU procedures and advanced care, including:
Mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive)
Endotracheal intubation
Central venous and arterial access
Chest drain insertion
Interpretation of ECGs, imaging, and ultrasound
Renal Replacement Therapy (including CVVHDF)
Interhospital and intrahospital patient transfers
Leadership & Development
Opportunities to act as a Medical Emergency Team (MET) Leader, including exposure to paediatric, neonatal, and obstetric emergencies
Structured weekly education program: ALS/MET simulation, radiology sessions, journal club, morbidity & mortality meetings, and exam preparation
Involvement in audit, research, and hospital-wide committees
Access to a wide range of training opportunities including neonatal resuscitation, obstetric emergencies, emergency medicine, and simulation programs
You will be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) and bring at least six months of recent experience in ICU or Anaesthetics. You will demonstrate clinical and procedural capability appropriate to a Registrar level, supported by well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills that enable you to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
In this role, you will be supported to further develop your expertise through hands-on experience and access to structured learning opportunities, with encouragement to build on your existing skills in a collaborative and clinically rich environment. Qualifications in BLS, ALS (Level 1 and 2), and PLS will be highly regarded and further contribute to your development within the unit.

We can offer
Salary: $128,760 to $175,802 per annum, plus 12% superannuation
Professional development allowance $11,721 pro rata per annum if part time
