About the role
The energy transition runs on batteries. As renewable energy reshapes the global power system, batteries are taking center stage. Making them reliable, safe and scalable are the defining challenges of the energy transition. At TWAICE, we build software that turns battery data into insights, so that we can help the world reach net zero faster.
As TWAICE's first technical hire on the ground in Australia, you sit at the intersection of customer-facing engineering and battery performance analysis. You will be TWAICE's primary technical point of contact for asset owners and O&M teams across Australia. The role spans pre-sales and post-sales: technical discovery, data-readiness assessments, customer onboarding, and performance analysis for commissioning and augmentation events. You should be ready to work independently in the Australian timezone while bridging local customer needs with TWAICE teams across Tech, Sales, and Customer Success.
This is a role for someone who has worked inside the BESS industry and is both able to and genuinely energized by operating credibly with both technical and commercial stakeholders. You understand what a capacity test actually measures, why cell voltage spread matters, what good data readiness looks like and can explain it sharply to technical and non-technical audiences alike. This isn't an Owner's Engineer, EPC manager or Commissioning manager role. Instead, you turn live BESS data into actionable insight, help customers scope and adopt TWAICE successfully, and carry technical context seamlessly from pre-sales through in-life support.
This role exists to serve our Australian customer base during AEST business hours. You'll own that timezone independently, while flexibly overlapping to collaborate with the broader CS Engineering team in Europe and the US regularly.
Your profile
- BESS industry experience is required. You have worked as a performance engineer, systems engineer, or O&M engineer. You know what happens inside a BESS project from commissioning through the first year of operation
- Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated BESS experience
- Comfortable with Python in an analytical context: processing sensor data, validating signal quality, debugging anomalies. Databricks experience is a plus
- Deep knowledge of lithium-ion battery behavior, degradation mechanisms, capacity fade, DC internal resistance, SoC estimation, and cell voltage/temperature imbalances
- Familiarity with BESS data flows and ingestion protocols (Modbus, IEC-104, OPC-UA, REST API, SFTP)
- Familiarity with the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) - including dispatch mechanics, FCAS markets, capacity credit obligations, and 5-minute settlement - and how these shape BESS operating constraints and asset owner priorities
- Understanding that NEM time (UTC+10, no DST) is used for grid-connected asset data logging in Australia, and the implications this has for KPI configuration and data validation, is a plus
- Communication is sharp and clear, no matter the audience
- Organized, customer-focused, and comfortable in a fast-moving startup
