About the role


The Barwon Health Eating Disorder Service is a specialist multidisciplinary team providing assessment and treatment to young people (0-25 years) and their families presenting with an eating disorder, or at risk of an eating disorder. The team is located within the Child and Youth Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol program. 


As guided by the Eating Disorders Service manager and Lived Experience Discipline Lead, the Senior Carer Peer Worker will provide expert input into the development of new peer programs in Eating Disorder Service and carer and family support within Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS). 


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Providing one-on-one peer support and facilitating groups for families and carers supporting consumers engaged with Eating Disorder Service

  • Working as an integral part of the carer Peer Worker team at MHDAS. 

  • Providing carer perspective supervision to MHDAS peer support workers 

  • Assisting in MHDAS educational activities designed to promote greater understanding of lived experience work, in particular peer support work, at the service  


What we’re looking for



  • Personal lived experience supporting or caring for a loved one with an eating disorder and the ability to use that experience safely and purposefully in peer work carers.

  • Capacity to provide one on one peer support and co-facilitate groups for carers within eating disorder models of care and lived experience scope of practice

  • Commitment to reflective practice, quality improvement, teamwork, and recognising risk, boundaries and escalation pathways in eating disorder settings.
