Job Description - Senior Data Engineer

Senior AWS Data Engineer Contract Your new company
A major public-sector organisation delivering large-scale digital and data initiatives. You will be joining a high-performing team focused on modern data engineering practices, cloud technologies, and citizen-centric service delivery.
Your new role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will contribute to a significant analytics project, designing and building scalable data solutions. You will develop secure REST APIs, build and optimise ETL pipelines, and deliver cloud-native capabilities using AWS services.
Design, develop, and test secure, scalable REST APIs
Build and optimise ETL pipelines for performance and reliability
Develop workflow orchestration for dependencies and scheduling
Package application workloads using Docker
Build cloud-native solutions using AWS services
Ensure security, governance, and best practices are followed
Identify bottlenecks and implement performance improvements
Implement structured logging and auditing
Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and optimisation
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones

What you'll need to succeed

Experience delivering software development or analytics projects
Strong background in ETL development and workflow orchestration
Extensive experience with AWS services (Glue, Lambda, S3, RDS, IAM, Secrets Manager, SQS, EventBridge, CloudWatch) - AWS expertise is essential
Experience with orchestration tools (e.g., Rundeck, AWS Step Functions)
Familiarity with ETL tools (Pentaho, Apache Hop)
Strong hands-on experience developing APIs
Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (Oracle/Postgres)
Practical experience with Docker
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to manage priorities and deliver to project deadlines

What you'll get in return
Contract till June 2026, $100-$120/hour + Super, Parramatta/Hybrid
