Senior Database Administrator - Oracle

We are looking for a Senior Oracle DBA for a 12-month contract. Your new role
Manage enterprise databases supporting business-critical applications across production, development, and testing environments. This includes database design, proactive administration, performance optimisation, backup and recovery, capacity planning, and security management.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and manage enterprise Oracle databases on engineered systems (e.g., Exadata) across production and non-production environments.
• Analyse, monitor, automate, and optimise database performance and reliability.
• Design, implement, and manage database backup and recovery strategies.
• Administer database replication, high availability, and failover solutions (e.g., Data Guard).
• Monitor system capacity and performance, ensuring scalability and stability.
• Ensure all activities adhere to organisational standards, policies, and procedures.
• Provide third-level (L3) support for incidents, problems, and service requests.
• Support and collaborate with Level 2 support teams and Level 3 development teams.
• Contribute to broader infrastructure responsibilities, including:
• Linux/Unix system administration
• Storage management
• Middleware administration (e.g., Oracle Forms, Reports, ODI, OAS, ORDS)
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation.

What you'll need to succeed
Technical Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience with
  Oracle Databases
  in enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in:
• Oracle 19c
• Real Application Clusters (RAC)
• Automatic Storage Management (ASM)
• Oracle Data Guard
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as
  Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).

Performance Optimisation

• Proven ability to analyse and optimise database performance.
• Strong skills in:
• SQL tuning
• Index optimisation
• Resource management

Backup, Recovery & Security

• Experience designing and implementing robust backup and recovery solutions.
• Strong understanding of database security, including:
• Access control
• Encryption
• Auditing

Automation & Scripting

• Experience automating database administration tasks using:
• SQL / PL-SQL
• Shell scripting (Linux/Unix)
• Familiarity with enterprise scheduling and automation tools (e.g., Autosys or equivalent).

Problem-Solving & Communication

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to manage incidents and problems in complex environments.
• Effective communication and collaboration with technical teams and stakeholders.
