AEMO at the Heart of Energy
AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.
About the role
As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will lead power system analysis activities and assess Victoria’s long-term transmission planning needs. You will evaluate transmission network adequacy and limitations, and identify and assess investment proposals that support a safe, secure and reliable electricity supply.
You will join a high-performing and collaborative team delivering complex power system analysis and investment planning across Victoria’s transmission network. These long-term projects require engineers who are self-motivated, solutions-focused and able to work autonomously while engaging closely with internal stakeholders, including other AEMO planning teams and VicGrid.
What you will be doing
You will undertake simulation and analysis of the Victorian transmission network using specialised power system modelling tools to assess network capability, identify emerging limitations, and evaluate mitigation and investment options.
The role involves interpreting and validating simulation outcomes, preparing technical reports and scopes of work, developing cost estimates, and delivery plans, and providing expert technical advice to support high-quality project outcomes.
You will provide technical guidance for junior staff, contribute clear and concise reports and stakeholder communications, and manage multiple concurrent project workstreams while proactively identifying and communicating risks, priorities, and impacts. You’ll be supported by a trusted and highly capable team environment that values collaboration, knowledge sharing and technical autonomy.
What you will bring to the role
Education/Certificates
