Key responsibilities:
- In this senior second-line role you will provide authoritative risk oversight and act as a trusted partner to senior
- business leaders across Liberty Australia. Your focus will be driving rigorous second-line challenge, embedding risk appetite into decision-making, uplifting risk frameworks and capability, and supporting regulatory readiness. The initial emphasis will be on Insurance and Underwriting Controls, while covering all risk classes as required.
- Provide independent oversight of the business's risk taking activities, monitoring risks against appetite and driving timely remediation actions.
- Lead effective second-line challenge across strategic initiatives, product and distribution developments, and major change programs to ensure risk considerations are embedded early.
- Act as a senior business partner advising on key risks, assessing the control environment and constructively challenging decisions to support better risk outcomes.
- Represent the risk function in senior forums, presenting clear insights, recommended actions and following through to closure.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across underwriting, claims, distribution, operations, technology, finance, actuarial, legal/compliance and regional risk peers to share best practice and maintain alignment to appetite.
- Lead uplift and periodic review of Liberty Australia's risk frameworks to ensure effectiveness and regulatory alignment.
- Prepare high-quality executive-level risk reporting, including emerging risk identification, scenario analysis and stress testing in collaboration with Finance and Actuarial.
- Maintain knowledge of Australian prudential regulatory requirements and support readiness for supervisory reviews and thematic engagements.
- Coordinate assurance planning with Internal Audit, Compliance and regional GRS Risk to integrate assurance activities.
- Provide proactive risk input and challenge on strategic projects, new products, material third-party arrangements and technology change to ensure risk is considered before implementation.
- Lead and develop a small risk team, deliver training to uplift capability, mentor junior colleagues and role-model Liberty's values and risk proposition.
About you:
- Significant experience in Risk, Governance or Compliance within general insurance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Australian insurance regulatory obligations (or comparable jurisdiction).
- Proven track record partnering with senior business leaders to influence outcomes and drive change.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills; adept at synthesising complex issues for executive audiences.
- Business, financial and market acumen with advanced analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Strong prioritisation and organisational capability; ability to drive for results and outcomes.
- Excellent relationship-building, stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills. Sound decision-making and critical thinking capability.
- Team leadership experience: ability to develop talent, set direction and maintain high standards of delivery and conduct.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Law, Commerce, Business or related field preferred; relevant professional certifications (risk/governance) advantageous.
