About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our North East Link - Hoddle to Burke project

The Eastern Hoddle Bourke Alliance (EHBA) is made up of John Holland, Seymour Whyte and design partners Mott MacDonald and Jacobs Group, in partnership with MRPV. The scope of works includes upgrading six kilometres of the Freeway with new traffic lanes, bridge upgrades and urban noise walls, a dedicated busway (fully segregated from mainline traffic), and a new bridge over the Yarra River.

The NEL Project involves the design and construction of the upgrade of the Eastern Freeway from Hoddle Street in the west to Burke Road in the east, including:

• 6km of brownfield freeway widening to accommodate additional traffic lanes in each direction


• 3km dedicated busway separated from mainline traffic


• Significant structures including 600m of bridges, including a 180m architectural steel shared use path bridge of the Yarra River


• Freeway-wide scope including ITS, retaining walls, stormwater drainage, noise walls, lighting and signage

Role responsibilities

The Senior Traffic Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing Transport Management Plans, Worksite Traffic Management Plans, and related traffic planning requirements.

You will maintain professional traffic management practices that support project success while actively contributing to EHBA’s health, safety, environmental, and quality management objectives through adherence to the project’s core safety and environmental values.

• Assist in developing and implementing Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) to manage construction impacts.


• Deliver toolbox talks and document daily and weekly inspections of traffic control setups.


• Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to coordinate works, progress payments, and variations.


• Review and provide feedback on drawings and traffic management documentation.


• Manage TMP submissions and approvals within required timeframes.


• Monitor traffic-related costs and support budget management.


• Review and approve WTMPs, Work Packs, SWMS, and work lot allocations, ensuring timely close-out.


• Coordinate procurement and preparation activities for TMP implementation.


• Lead, support, and manage direct reports to maintain a productive and compliant team.


• Attend site during traffic implementations as required, including day and night works.

About You

• SafeWork VIC Traffic Control Work Training Card and White Card essential.


• Current Victorian Driver’s Licence essential.


• Traffic Management Designer Qualifications (Cat 1, 2 & 3) essential


• Experience in construction, traffic management, or traffic engineering on major projects.


• Experience with Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS) preparation, implementation, and management.


• Strong experience in regulatory liaison, approvals, and stakeholder consultation.


• Financial Management of traffic management on major projects
