Your Opportunity

We’re looking for a Solution Architect to join our Core Services team within Enterprise Technology Services.

Our Core Services domain sits at the centre of this ecosystem. We own the foundational platforms that enable payment processing, settlement, file exchange, and reporting, supporting over 40 critical applications used across the business.

If you’re passionate about designing architecture for high-volume, real-time financial systems, this is your opportunity to shape the core of how money moves.

In this role, you’ll design and evolve the architecture that underpins Cuscal’s core banking and payments capabilities ensuring our platforms are scalable, resilient, secure, and ready for the future of real-time payments.

Your work will directly impact mission-critical systems used by millions of Australians, where performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance are paramount.

You'll also make an impact by: 

Design Core Payment & Banking Architecture

• Develop solution architectures for core services including payments processing, settlement, reconciliation, and file exchange
• Translate business and technical requirements into robust architectural blueprints, including NFRs such as availability, DR, and security 
• Ensure alignment with enterprise strategies across API, cloud, and cyber security

Enable Modernisation of Core Platforms

• Drive the evolution of legacy core systems into modern, API-driven and cloud-enabled architectures
• Define roadmaps that transition platforms from current to future state while maintaining always-on service stability
• Support integration across payment rails (e.g. real-time payments, card, and account-based systems)

Own Architecture Across Complex, Shared Services

• Work across a highly interconnected domain that links multiple product areas and shared capabilities
• Ensure consistency, interoperability, and reuse across solutions in a landscape of 40+ applications
• Act as a trusted advisor to Product, Engineering, and Risk teams on architecture decisions

Optimise and Future-Proof the Platform

• Assess current technology landscape to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for uplift 
• Stay ahead of payments industry trends (e.g. NPP, ISO20022, real-time processing) to guide design decisions
• Support vendor selection, lifecycle management, and strategic technology choices

What you’ll bring 

To succeed in this role, you’ll have: 

• Experience as a Solution Architect in core banking, payments, or financial services
• Strong understanding of high-availability, real-time transaction systems
• Proven ability to define solution architecture and influence stakeholders
• Experience with APIs, integration patterns, and distributed systems
• Solid knowledge of AWS cloud (PaaS/IaaS), security, and infrastructure
• Experience delivering solutions in Agile environments
• Ability to balance innovation with risk, compliance, and resilience

You’ll stand out from the crowd if you have some of the following: 

• Experience with payments systems and standards (ISO20022, ISO8583, BECS, etc.)
• Familiarity with NPP, cards, clearing & settlement
• Background in software engineering
