Job Description - Sr. Systems Test Engineer (Baseline Clearance)

Position: Sr. Test Engineer

Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline

Job details
Testers examine and report on the responsiveness and stability of systems and their components under workloads.
The role will place you as a Senior Test Engineer within the DVA ecosystem.
Senior Test Engineers ensure that ICT solutions improve quality, performance, architectural and functional requirements and are fit for business purpose. Senior Test Engineers ensure that all test effort activities are effectively completed and carried out in accordance with agreed test guidelines.
Senior Test Engineers work under the limited direction of senior staff. They exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. Decision making is dependent on judgement, skills and knowledge. Senior Test Engineers manage and organise their own work in the context of competing priorities, including contributing to business planning, changes in workplace practices and innovative improvement strategies.
The role will involve having or the ability to gain knowledge of Client’s software development lifecycle, tools, services, deployment procedures and cyber security policies as well as industry best practices. You will work closely with Software Architects, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Analysts and Developers with the shared purpose of building simple, helpful, respectful and transparent services for everyday Australians.

Key duties and responsibilities

The key duties of the role include but may not be limited to the following:
• create and execute complex test cases on appropriate testing platforms using own in -depth technical analysis of specifications
• create complex test data within external software vendor environment
• review test cases from team members to ensure quality
• develop and review test plans, test cases, task cards and supporting test data, working to the specifications provided
• apply in -depth technical analysis, practices and procedures when designing, executing and creating test cases
• assist with defining requirements for the test environments
• record and analyse test results, and report any unexpected or unsatisfactory outcomes
• identify, analyse, manage and document all defects, programming errors and operational characteristics that are inconsistent with stated requirements and design specifications
• conduct testing to ensure the ICT Service functions as per requirements
• create test data in vendor environment
• monitor and manage time and effort to ensure test cases are running to project schedule and escalate any issues
• ensure work aligns with business processes and overall delivery outcomes
• collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure effective and timely implementation of projects
• provide advice and assistance to external software vendors in regards to testing and development of software
• resolve or escalate issues as required and suggest alternative approaches perform cost analysis activities as required

Technical skills
• Formal testing qualification or demonstrated experience • Experience in the development and maintenance of Automation Test Scripts using test automation tools

Criteria

Essential criteria

• 1. Business intelligence: Level 3 (SFIA)
Sources and prepares data for analysis and performs standard business intelligence analysis activities. Creates and delivers standard reports in accordance with stakeholder needs and conforming to agreed standards. Investigates the need for new or revised business intelligence analysis. Contributes to the recommendation of improvements. Engages with stakeholders under direction.
• 2. Methods and tools: Level 3 (SFIA)
Provides support on the use of existing methods and tools. Configures methods and tools within a known context. Creates and updates the documentation of methods and tools.
• 3. Programming/software development: Level 3 (SFIA)
Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors moderately complex programs/scripts. Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well -engineered result. Monitors and reports on progress. Identifies issues related to software development activities. Proposes practical solutions to resolve issues. Collaborates in reviews of work with others as appropriate.
• 4. Testing: Level 4 (SFIA)
Selects appropriate testing approach, including manual and automated testing. Develops and executes test plans and test cases. Implements scalable and reliable automated tests and frameworks. Collaborates across parties involved in product, systems or service design and development to enable comprehensive test coverage. Identifies improvements in requirements, design or specification processes to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of testing. Analyses and reports on test activities, results, issues and risks, including the work of others.
