About the Role

The Student Engagement & Retention Coordinator plays an important role in supporting student success and retention across the University. Working within the Performance and Reporting, Student Equity team, you will identify and address barriers to student engagement, deliver targeted interventions for at-risk students, and connect students with services and resources that support their academic journey. Through collaboration with academic and professional staff, you will contribute to a whole-of-institution approach to improving student outcomes and persistence. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver student retention and support initiatives that provide guidance, mentoring and intervention for at-risk students. 
  • Work collaboratively across the University to support effective student referral pathways and engagement strategies. 
  • Monitor and support processes associated with at-risk student management and retention programs. 
  • Contribute to the collection, analysis and reporting of student data to meet compliance and government reporting requirements. 
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through evaluation, stakeholder feedback and evidence-based recommendations.

About the Team

This position sits within the Dean of Students Division in the Portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education). The role is part of the Performance and Reporting, Student Equity team, working closely with students, academic staff and professional services teams across the University. The team is dedicated to creating supportive pathways that enhance student engagement, success and retention. 

What You'll Bring

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and qualifications. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders. 
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to inform decision-making and program delivery. 
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and evidence-based practice.

Role Details

  • Employment type:  Full-time | Fixed term to 31 December 2026
  • Level 5 | $85,682 - $96,898 + 17% superannuation
  • Location: Wollongong Campus
  • Valid Australian work rights required. Visa sponsorship is not available.
  • This position has been classified as child-related work and requires a valid Working With Children Check
