Job Description - Sustainability Lead

Our Fulton Hogan Southern Region Construction business is seeking a Sustainability Lead for an upcoming infrastructure project.

Reporting to the project leadership team, you will lead sustainability systems, plans, ratings and reporting; ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements; and embed practical initiatives across design and construction. Working with project teams, subcontractors and external stakeholders, you will manage risks and opportunities and drive measurable improvement.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop, implement and review the Sustainability Management Plan and Package Sustainability Implementation Plan.
  • Lead Infrastructure Sustainability, client self-assessment or equivalent rating submissions, including evidence, assurance and completion requirements.
  • Monitor targets, risks and milestones, maintain accurate sustainability data and reporting, and escalate emerging issues.
  • Partner with design, delivery, procurement and commercial teams to embed sustainable solutions across the project lifecycle.
  • Lead inspections, audits and assurance activities, ensuring findings are recorded and closed out.
  • Provide practical advice and coaching to project personnel, designers and subcontractors, and represent sustainability in project and stakeholder forums.

How you'll connect to the role?

You will hold tertiary qualifications in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, environmental management or a related discipline, with relevant experience in construction, civil infrastructure, road or rail.

You will have experience delivering sustainability plans, reporting and rating or self-assessment submissions, ideally including Infrastructure Sustainability ratings. Strong data assurance, technical writing, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to turn commitments into practical project actions.

Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional and Environmental Management Systems Lead Auditor qualifications are desirable.
