We are seeking a Team Lead – Commissiong to join our Onboarding & Connections team. This role will suit a collaborative and influential leader who enjoys bringing people together to solve complex technical challenges, build capability and deliver meaningful outcomes for the energy industry.


 


About the Team


The Onboarding & Connections (O&C) division manages AEMO's end-to-end connection process for new participants and generators entering Australia's energy markets. Working collaboratively with industry stakeholders, the team plays a critical role in enabling a reliable, secure and sustainable energy future.


 


This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in Australia's energy transition, supporting the connection of new generation and emerging technologies to the National Electricity Market.


Reporting to the Manager, Commissioning, you will lead a team of technical specialists responsible for commissioning and connecting a diverse portfolio of generation and large-load projects across Australia.


 


This role can be based in any Australian capital city


 


What you will be doing


You will lead the commissioning and connection of technologies including wind, solar, hydro, battery storage, hydrogen and synchronous condensers, helping bring critical energy infrastructure online. Working closely with developers, network service providers, regulators, government agencies and other industry stakeholders, you will drive technical excellence, deliver successful commissioning outcomes and contribute to the ongoing evolution of connection processes and industry standards.


This role will suit an experienced engineering leader who combines strong technical expertise with a people-first approach, enjoys developing high-performing teams and is motivated by contributing to one of the most significant transformations of Australia's energy system.


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Lead, coach and develop a team of technical specialists, driving capability, performance and delivery excellence.

  • Provide expert guidance on commissioning, power system stability, system strength and performance standards.

  • Support robust, evidence-based decision-making to achieve successful project outcomes.

  • Partner with developers, OEMs, network service providers and regulators to resolve complex technical challenges.

  • Build trusted stakeholder relationships and communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively.

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance commissioning processes and industry outcomes


 


What you will bring to the role



  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with strong expertise in power systems and emerging energy technologies.

  • Proven experience leading and developing technical teams within a complex engineering environment.

  • Demonstrated success delivering large, technically complex projects using a pragmatic and outcomes-focused approach.

  • Strong commissioning experience across inverter-based resources, synchronous condensers and other large-scale energy assets.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience resolving complex technical issues across diverse groups.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for a range of audiences, supported by a sound understanding of the electricity industry and NEM operations.
