As Tech Lead, Environments & Quality Engineering, you will be responsible for the running and management of a set of quality engineering and testing tools. You will also be responsible for the governance and management of the lower (non-production) environments. You will work with the Manager, Environments & Quality Engineering and Principal Engineers to shape and execute the environments strategy which aims to modernise our lower environments to support the broader uplift of IAG’s engineering capability.
You bring technical expertise that guides and supports our Environments & Quality Engineering function. You will help drive architecture decisions, uplift code quality and engineering practices within your team and more broadly.
This is a permanent, full-time position open to candidates based in Gadigal Country (Sydney) or Naarm (Melbourne)
What You'll Do
Environments
- Lead the environments governance function to ensure environment stability and availability.
- Coordinate major platform releases to ensure a suitable path-to-production for the major programs of work.
- Contribute to the creation and execution of the environments strategy that will modernise lower environments from long-lived fully integrated to ephemeral on-demand, including service virtualisation and test data management.
Quality Engineering
- Lead the technical direction, design and execution of our quality engineering strategy.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices—such as CI/CD, automated testing, code review, and secure coding—to ensure security and quality are embedded at every stage of the development process.
- Identify and manage technical debt, in collaboration with the Manager, Environments & Quality Engineering, providing pragmatic refactors and suggestions for improvement.
- Use technical and functional knowledge to remove roadblocks and identify technical risks (including architecture, design, patterns, performance, etc.) and communicate & escalate obstacles requiring resolution.
- Collaborate closely with the Manager, Environments & Quality Engineering to balance technical and product priorities while delivering on strategic goals.
- Balance hands-on technical contribution with technical leadership, ensuring high-quality delivery through direct involvement in coding, design, and problem-solving.
Leadership & collaboration
- Foster and embed a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement through collaborative decision-making and mentoring.
- Collaborate across teams to align on cross-cutting solutions and integrate systems effectively.
- Be the technical voice in stakeholder meetings, ensuring quality, security, and technical standards are upheld in decision-making.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, driving innovation and technical maturity within the squad
What You'll Bring
We’re looking for a seasoned technical leader with a strong engineering background and a passion for driving change. To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Experience:
- 5+ years in software or platform engineering, delivering complex technical solutions at scale in agile environments.
- Proven experience building and operating internal platforms, developer products, or enterprise-scale technology solutions.
- Ability to lead multi-partner engagements and manage phased adoption of new processes or tools, ensuring measurable benefits and minimal disruption.
Technical Expertise:
- Deep knowledge of DevOps, system design, cloud platforms, secure coding, and quality engineering practices.
- Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps), test automation frameworks (Eg:Selenium, Playwright), API testing, and service virtualisation
- Familiarity with test data management tools (Eg: Delphix, Informatica, Plutora, Enov8), observability and monitoring (New Relic, Prometheus), and quality reporting dashboards
- Ability to assess and uplift existing enterprise test frameworks (e.g., Purple Fields vs. team‑specific stacks), avoiding tool proliferation, and aligning automation strategy to enterprise standards.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Ability to mentor and inspire teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and psychological safety.
- Strong communication skills to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and advocate for quality and security.
- Skilled in driving governance rhythms, managing demand processes, and ensuring transparency in reporting and decision-making.
- Comfortable working across multiple teams and vendors
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
- A proactive mindset, staying ahead of emerging technologies—including AI-driven testing, agentic automation, and cloud-native solutions—to enhance platforms and processes
