This role sits at the frontline of fruit quality assessment, grower engagement, and intake logistics - an essential link between our grower network and winery operations during the busiest time of year.

These positions are based in Berri, South Australia   


About The Role


Vintage Field Officers travel across designated growing regions each day, assessing fruit quality, collecting samples, and supporting smooth communication between growers and winery teams. You’ll be provided with a site vehicle, daily region lists, and clear direction from the Grower Liaison Officer. 




 


This role requires confidence working independently, strong communication skills, and the ability to stay organised under tight seasonal deadlines. 




 


The role of Vintage Field Officer is typically worked across a standard fiveday week with additional hours available during peak harvest. Shifts run approximately 6:00am to 2:30pm, with early starts to manage heat and support daily intake planning.  


Key Responsibilities




  • Conduct vineyard visits across allocated regions to assess fruit quality, disease presence, and ripeness. 





  • Collect representative grape samples and perform basic maturity testing (Baumé/sugar levels, pH). 





  • Enter field data accurately into motion tablets for each allocated block. 





  • Maintain clear, professional communication with growers, contractors, haulers, and winery staff. 





  • Relay urgent issues such as fruit condition concerns, delays, or delivery problems to the winemaking and weighbridge teams. 





  • Update shift status reports and grape intake information to support daily operational decisions. 







  • Follow strict food safety, biosecurity, and winery quality protocols. 





  • Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Grower Liaison Officer. 



Essential Knowledge And Skills


Core Technical Skills 





  • Experience in fruit sampling and basic maturity testing. 





  • Ability to identify common vineyard pests and diseases. 





  • Strong growerfacing communication and relationshipbuilding skills. 





  • Confidence with data entry and fast, accurate recordkeeping. 





  • Understanding of winery, biosecurity, and safety standards. 




Interpersonal & Operational Skills 





  • Clear, calm communication under pressure. 





  • Strong problemsolving skills, especially when dealing with delivery delays or grower queries. 





  • Excellent time management and organisational ability. 





  • Resilience and comfort working outdoors in hot weather with early starts. 


Physical And Other Requirements




  • Viticulture or horticulture background preferred. 





  • Ability to walk and work across varied vineyard terrain. 





  • Valid driver’s licence (mandatory). 







  • Knowledge of local regions and grape varieties highly regarded. 





  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. 





  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised. 





  • Must have valid work rights and be able to provide proof  





  • Willingness to complete a preemployment health assessment
