Possible Internship locations: Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, French Polynesia, Tonga, Kiribati, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, American Samoa, Vanuatu

This educational internship provides BYU–Hawaii Facility and Construction Management students with hands-on experience in temple construction or facilities management within the Special Projects Department (SPD). Under general supervision, Interns gain practical exposure to construction, facility operations, assessments, capital projects, and planning while applying concepts learned through their academic studies. The program is designed to develop future construction and facilities management professionals and strengthen global partnerships through meaningful workplace learning experiences.



Responsibilities

Work under the guidance of supervising staff and receive regular coaching and feedback. Success in the role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, sound judgment, the ability to meet deadlines, collaborate effectively with others, take direction, and progressively demonstrate initiative and independence.

  • Support temple construction or facility maintenance operations, inspections, and site assessments under supervision. 

  • Assist with capital projects, including planning, coordination, documentation, and follow-up activities. 

  • Gain experience in construction, facilities management, asset planning, lifecycle management, and project prioritization. 

  • Participate in site visits, information interviews, workshops, and learning sessions with construction, facilities professionals, and project management or other subject matter experts. 

  • Work with supervisors to plan activities, set learning objectives, and review progress. 

  • Maintain accurate records of internship activities, learning outcomes, and assigned work. 

  • Build effective working relationships with local and global teams through professional communication and collaboration. 

  • Perform other construction, facilities management or development assignments as directed.



Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled at BYU–Hawaii and registered in the Construction and Facilities Management (CFM) major.

  • Must have 9 credits in the CFM program and at least 60 total credits.

  • Available to complete at least 14 weeks of a 16-week internship, ideally between 26th April and 27th August 2027

  • Must not be enrolled in academic courses during the internship period. 

  • Able to work 30-40 hours per week for the duration of the internship.

  • Must have legal authorization to intern (work) in the country for which the internship is based.

  • Demonstrates keen interest in temple construction, facilities management, and project delivery.

  • Able to work effectively under the supervision of construction, facilities, site or project professionals.

  • Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, initiative, and willingness to learn.

  • Able and willing to participate in site visits, training, professional development, and other assigned learning activities, and internship evaluation processes.
