Application Technologist (Maternity Cover)

Overall mission:

Contribute to the successful development of customer-focused food products by proposing flavor and formulation solutions that respond to defined project needs and consumer insights. Apply technical expertise on reasoning to enhance product performance and flavor selection, ensuring accuracy in data management, compliance with EH&S standards, and agreement on our goals. You will be located in Vienna and report to the Application Manager.

You will:

Product Development

• Develop and refine flavored food prototypes that meet internal and customer project goals, ensuring product quality delivery


• Select and recommend flavor compositions based on data analysis, sensory results, regulatory guidelines, and cost parameters


• Participate in flavor and sensory evaluations, interpreting data to recommend formulation improvements and ensure agreement on desired outcomes


• Contribute to customer-facing activities such as tasting sessions and technical discussions, explaining product characteristics and support decisions collaboratively


• Investigate issues through data analysis and recommend improvements to formulas or processes to enhance product reliability and efficiency

Food Experience

• Translate customer feedback and market trends into technical adjustments that enhance sensory experience and product differentiation


• Use sensory and analytical tools to inform flavour selection and support product performance


• Prepare samples and presentations for customer visits, explaining sensory and technical aspects


• Collaborate with peers to exchange insights on consumer preferences and sensory innovation, contributing to a data-informed culture of improvement

Environmental Health & Safety

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized lab environment following EH&S policies, contributing to a culture of safety and responsibility


• Participate in safety training sessions and follow established EH&S guidelines in daily activities


• Report any safety concerns or incidents to senior team members, ensuring that you address issues promptly


• Follow all safety protocols and best practices while conducting experiments and handling materials

You:

• Bachelor of Science and/or Master's Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or Biology


• 2 - 4 years of experience in a food applications lab or production


• Experience with Sweet Goods and Dairy products, Beverage related experience is also beneficial


• Understanding of most food ingredients when used in application


• Understanding of multiple Givaudan food applications processes


• Knowledge of most of our customers' products and their production processes


• Experience with financial aspects of flavour selection (cost-in-use, margins)


• Tasting skills and ability to describe the flavour profile of the product and provide direction to flavourists for flavour Modifications


• Experience with the most common flavour reactions/interactions in common food products


• A basic understanding of project management

The minimum gross salary for this position according to the Collective Agreement for Trade CBA is € 2,760 gross per month (based on full-time employment). However, we offer market-conforming over payment depending on your specific qualifications and professional experience.
