Your role in our team

As our new Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing advanced satellite communication and Software Defined Radio (SDR) technologies for Terma's Space R&D organisation. You will design, implement, test, and verify high-performance software and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) solutions for satellite communications, working throughout the entire development lifecycle.

You will collaborate closely with Software, RF, DSP, Systems Engineers, Architects, and Project Managers in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing to both product development and research activities. The role also involves supporting the integration of software with RF, FPGA, and hardware platforms, driving technical innovation, and ensuring reliable, mission-critical solutions for satellite ground systems.

You will work with both internal and external stakeholders, making strong communication and collaboration skills essential when discussing complex technical topics and supporting customer solutions.

You will become part of Terma Space R&D - Power & Ground Systems in Vienna, an international and multidisciplinary R&D environment. The team works closely with Software, RF, DSP and Systems Engineers, as well as Architects and Project Managers across Terma's Space organisation. How you will make a meaningful contribution

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and evolution of Terma’s SPECTRA Software Defined Radio (SDR) modem and associated satellite communication technologies, contributing to product architecture, technical design, and new product capabilities.
  
  
  • Design, implement, integrate, and verify advanced SATCOM and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms throughout the full software development lifecycle, including requirements engineering, architecture and design, implementation, testing, and system verification.
  
  
  • Develop advanced communication algorithms and coding schemes for satellite TT&C, SATCOM, and 5G-NTN applications, leveraging technologies such as OFDM, spread spectrum, ranging, and interferometry where applicable
  
  
  • Support the integration of software with DSP, FPGA, and RF hardware, and contribute to the development and execution of RF test systems and validation activities.
  
  
  • Conduct technical studies, investigations, and R&D activities focused on emerging communication, RF, and signal-processing technologies, while contributing to technical proposals and future product development initiatives.
  
  
  • Produce high-quality engineering documentation and provide technical support to customers during the integration, deployment, and operation of satellite ground-station systems.
  
  
  
  

Bring your world class expertise into play

You are fluent in English both in writing and verbal at a professional level. German is an advantage but not a requirement. Moreover, we are also looking for a new colleague with the following qualifications:

  • Degree in Software Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related technical discipline, combined with approximately 5+ years of relevant professional experience. A strong mathematical and physics foundation is highly desirable
  
  
  • Strong software engineering expertise with advanced programming skills in C, as well as solid knowledge of C++ and Python
  
  
  • Proven experience in Digital Signal Processing (DSP), digital communications, Software Defined Radio (SDR), and satellite communications, including a practical understanding of RF principles
  
  
  • Experience with GNU/Linux development, software integration, requirements-driven and test-driven development, as well as modern development tools such as GitLab CI, Docker, Kubernetes, Bash, and Python scripting
  
  
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering domains, translating complex communication and signal-processing concepts into reliable, high-performance software while collaborating effectively with technical stakeholders and customers.

The base pay is composed of the amount according to the Collective Agreement of the Austrian Electrical and Electronics Industry which is at least EUR 3.888,53 gross per month (x 14) and an overpayment depending on your qualifications and experience.
