API Analyst (Freelance) – 14 months – Brussels, Belgium
At RELYzIT Talent, we don’t recruit — we build. We unite the top 2% of builders — engineers, architects, creators — into a movement across Europe and the GCC. Vetted through our VECTOR7™ Signal Stack, you’re not just hired, you’re chosen. This is more than work. This is where builders build the future.
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced API Analyst to empower their Integration Team in Brussels. This freelance opportunity (14 months) is designed for a builder who thrives on enabling teams, shaping integration landscapes, and driving the adoption of composable architecture. You’ll be at the heart of transforming how APIs are designed, standardized, and governed — ensuring that every integration is robust, reusable, and future-ready.
Why This Role Matters
As API Analyst, you are the enabler behind seamless, secure, and scalable integrations. Your expertise will directly impact the organization’s ability to deliver consistent, high-quality APIs that underpin mission-critical services. By translating architectural vision into actionable API agreements, you’ll help teams build with confidence, accelerate delivery, and future-proof the integration landscape. The stakes: safer, more manageable, and more innovative digital services for millions.
What You’ll Be Doing
Guiding and supporting development teams in analyzing, designing, and documenting APIs that align with architectural standards.
Preparing and maintaining API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger), ensuring clarity, consistency, and reusability.
Monitoring and enforcing API standards, naming conventions, version management, error handling, security guidelines, and documentation quality.
Facilitating collaboration between business analysts, functional analysts, developers, architects, security, and operations teams.
Analyzing existing APIs and integration patterns, proposing improvements for standardization and reuse.
Supporting API governance, including reviewing API designs and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture.
Championing composable architecture principles, enabling modular, decoupled, and reusable API building blocks.
Contributing to knowledge sharing, documentation, templates, and guidelines for API development across the organization.
Driving the professionalization of the Integration Team as a key enabler for development teams.
Technical Skills
Proven experience in functional and technical analysis within IT projects or software development environments.
Strong background in API analysis, API design, and integration analysis.
Deep knowledge of REST APIs, API contracts, OpenAPI/Swagger, and JSON.
Familiarity with ESB environments and integration platforms, preferably AXWAY and Fuse.
Insight into composable architecture principles and how APIs, services, and ESB platforms contribute to modular, reusable landscapes.
Experience with API governance, lifecycle management, version control, documentation, and service reusability.
Knowledge of API security concepts: OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, certificates, access control, and secure API design.
Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and collaborating within or alongside development teams.
What We’re Looking For
Builder mindset: ownership, initiative, and a drive to deliver impact.
Strong analytical skills and a structured, pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to bridge technical and functional perspectives.
Proven ability to build connections and consult with diverse stakeholders.
Customer- and service-oriented, with a continuous improvement mentality.
Results-driven, responsible, and able to apply standards with practical flexibility.
Experience supporting knowledge expansion and best practices within development teams.
Language Proficiency
Professional proficiency in English is required.
Additional language skills (French or Dutch) are a plus.
Other Requirements
This is a freelance position with a 14-month project duration, based in Brussels (on-site).
Applicants must provide a presentation or document describing an API or integration environment where they supported development teams in analyzing, designing, documenting, or standardizing APIs. Clearly state your personal role, collaboration with teams, and how the APIs fit within a broader integration and composable architecture.
