Job Description - Assistant Breeder (Specialist) - BASF | Nunhems - Haelen/Nunhem

At BASF | Nunhems, we create innovative seed varieties and smart solutions for tomorrow’s needs. With over 100 years of breeding experience, we combine genetics, data, and global partnerships to deliver vegetables people love — today and for generations to come. To further develop and grow this ambition we are looking for a Assistant Breeder (Specialist) - BASF | Nunhems - Haelen/Nunhem.

Do you want a role where you can truly contribute to the development of new vegetable varieties? And do you enjoy combining data, hands-on work, and collaboration within a close team? Within our spinach breeding team, this might be the opportunity for you.

Your role

As an Assistant Breeder (Specialist), you are an important member of the spinach breeding team. You support the development and improvement of spinach varieties and ensure that everything related to data and trials is well-organized.

Around 60% of your time will be focused on data: collecting, structuring, preparing, and analyzing.
The remaining time is spent on fieldwork, evaluating trials, and occasional travel.

You will be working in a team where colleagues support each other and step in where needed. This means you will have a broad role, with a lot of variation and overlap in responsibilities.

What will you do?

  • Collect, structure, and analyze data from trials and experiments

  • Prepare and support breeding activities

  • Ensure accurate administration and data processing in the breeding database

  • Manage and execute the increase of elite stock seeds

  • Collaborate with colleagues within and outside the team

  • Support the planning and coordination of trials and breeding activities

  • Share insights based on data and discuss results with sales and production

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor-level working and thinking (HBO level), preferably with a degree in Applied Biology

  • Strong administrative and analytical skills

  • Accuracy and a structured way of working

  • Open and clear communication

  • You enjoy having a broad role and can easily switch between different tasks

  • A team player who is willing to pick up work from others when needed

  • Fluent in English; Dutch is a strong plus

What can you expect?

  • A varied role within an engaged and supportive team

  • Plenty of opportunities to learn and develop yourself

  • A position combining in-depth content and practical involvement

  • Salary between €3,500 and €4,300 gross per month, depending on experience and knowledge

  • Travel accounts for approximately 10–15% of your time

Practical information

  • Working hours: 32–38 hours per week (with a strong preference for 38 hours)

  • Location: Nunhem
