Group R&D Packaging Specialist

Are you the R&D Packaging Specialist we are searching for our headquarters in Lembeke? In this pivotal role, you will lead and manage all technical aspects of packaging within the Lotus Bakeries Group, serving as the key expert on materials, technical drawings, machine compatibility, and product-packaging interactions, while ensuring alignment with both the company's innovation goals and regulatory requirements.

• You take a leading role from a packaging point of view in different projects for a wide range of products. Your goal is to translate packaging related questions and projects into the most efficient solution, keeping all variables (shelf life, supplier capabilities, runability in factory, retailer, cost) in mind. To name a few examples; introduction of new products and packaging formats, implementation of new materials, sustainability, changes to existing packaging concepts, cooperating with packaging suppliers, etc.).

• You are the (technical) contact person for both internal (marketing/procurement/engineering/production) and external (suppliers) stakeholders.

• You also take part in departmental knowledge domains such as packaging specifications, governmental packaging regulation, documentation and providing an all-round advising role for all packaging related topics within other departments.

• With an eye on the future, we also count on you to keep your knowledge of packaging materials, machinery and applications up to date. In doing so, you identify opportunities for improvement and implement best practices.

• Working closely together with your R&D colleagues, you act as each other’s back up. You report to the Global R&D Project Manager.

To be able to achieve the above and be successful in this role we believe you need to have:

• A Master’s degree in product or industrial design, engineering or packaging technologies.

• Relevant experience in packaging or food technology is advantageous but not required. Above all, your passion and drive for technical, packaging-related projects are what matter most.

• A creative mindset with good project management skills who knows how to prioritize and set boundaries.

• Strong communication skills, combined with a drive to find solutions and a hands-on mentality.

• Fluent language skills in both Dutch and English is a must. Good language skills in French would be a strong asset. 

• Given that the factories are located globally, both domestic and international travel are part of the job.
