Job Description - Multi-Scale Simulation Researcher






In a nutshell






Material Engineering 2 develops advanced materials for future mobility, focusing on PEC systems that convert CO₂ into useful products. In this role, you build multiscale simulation frameworks combining quantum models, kinetics, and CFD to predict and optimize device performance. You integrate atomistic data into system-level models, improve efficiency, and support EU project goals. The job requires strong programming, simulation expertise, machine learning skills, and a PhD with experience in electrochemistry and multiscale modeling.

Your team and your responsibilities






Division description 

 

Material Engineering 2 (ME2) is responsible for fundamental research of innovative technological concepts to support Toyota’s future mobility business. Our vision is to be the hub that transforms Europe’s unique, cutting-edge materials technologies into added social value. ME2 fundamental research covers topics which include battery, fuel cell, catalyst and photoelectrochemical (PEC) technologies, targeting the translation of new concepts into optimised engineering applications. 

 

Towards this direction, and in the framework of the EU funded project “PREDICT” (Grant Agreement 101219185), our team is involved in the development and application of multiscale simulations of innovative materials and PEC cell designs which target the conversion of CO2 into key materials. 

 

Your responsibilities 

 

  • Develop multiscale modeling framework to simulate the entire PEC system, incorporating both the water oxidation at the anode and the CO2 reduction at the cathode 

  • Integrate the results of the atomistic simulations into a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) framework 

  • Predict the overall CO2 conversion efficiency and water oxidation rate of PEC device 

  • Optimize the PEC device design for maximum efficiency 

  • Prepare publications and present results in scientific conferences 

  • Contribute to the preparation of EU project deliverables 









Your Profile






  • You are fluent in English (TME’s business language) 

  • You have experience in programming (C++, Python) 

  • You are an expert in simulation methods related to PEC devices (Quantum Mechanics, kinetic Monte Carlo, CFD) 

  • You have experience with training and applying Machine Learning models 

  • You are familiar with the electrochemical processes of a PEC device 

  • You are familiar with using optimization methods 

  • You have minimum 4 years of experience in developing and/or applying multiscale simulation models 

  • You hold a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics or Engineering
