As a Senior Technical Functional Analyst within the Data Integration Components (DI-components) subteam, you will be instrumental in optimizing the MAGDA platform—the core of seamless, secure data sharing in Flanders. Your work will empower government, citizens, and businesses to collaborate and innovate, ensuring the digital infrastructure is robust, scalable, and future-ready.

About the Role

You will bridge architectural vision and technical execution, translating complex requirements into actionable solutions for development teams. Working closely with architects, product owners, and developers, you will refine and document technical specifications, drive integration projects, and ensure the MAGDA platform continues to set the standard for secure, efficient data exchange.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate architectural and functional requirements into clear, technically substantiated specifications for development teams.


• Design and specify integrations for synchronous web services (SOAP/REST), including data models, error handling, and versioning.


• Shape Kafka-based event architectures, defining topic structures, partitioning, and schema evolution requirements.


• Develop and document asynchronous data file transfer solutions (FTP/SFTP, batch processing) with robust technical detail.


• Collaborate on test scenarios and acceptance criteria, ensuring requirements are testable from the outset.


• Support daily operations: follow up on bug tickets, guide resolution, and assist with migration project rollouts and cleanups.


• Document technical decisions, ensuring alignment between architectural vision and implementation.


• Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact, business-critical solutions.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ demonstrable experience with asynchronous data file transfers (FTP, SFTP, batch processing), supported by detailed case descriptions.


• Proven experience as a functional analyst with business-critical applications in technical environments.


• Expertise in requirements analysis and translation into technical specifications (senior level).


• Strong experience with SOAP & REST services, including interpreting and creating XML and Swagger files.


• Experience with token-based authorization (medior level).


• Experience with Oracle or EDB Postgres databases (medior level).


• Familiarity with test strategies (junior level).


• Proficiency with tools such as Confluence, JIRA, SoapUI/LoadUI, and Postman (medior level).


• Understanding of requirements analysis & design concepts for OO, multi-tier, web-enabled, and/or UML environments.


• Knowledge of data and process modeling techniques and tools.


• Experience in Kubernetes/OpenShift environments (nice to have, junior level).


• Experience with ELK stack (Elasticsearch/Logstash/Kibana) and Jaeger tracing (nice to have, junior level).


• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (nice to have, junior level).


• Knowledge of Linked data – OSLO (nice to have, junior level).


• Experience with Microsoft Azure (nice to have, junior level).


• Experience with XSLT transformations for XML data (nice to have).


• Experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka topic design, partitioning, schema evolution, and event-driven principles (nice to have, junior level).

Language Proficiency

• Dutch at European CEFR level C2 (mandatory).

Other Requirements

• Signed NDA document to be uploaded (mandatory).


• Demonstrable experience in technical environments relevant to the project context.


• Ability to document and communicate technical decisions clearly.


• Experience working in Agile/Scrum or similar collaborative frameworks is a plus.
