Sr. Field Safety Officer/Supervisor

ERM is looking for a Senior Field Safety Officer to support projects across the Antwerp region.

The Senior Field Safety Officer provides on‑site supervision and assurance of contractor health and safety performance, conducting inspections, audits, and observations, and intervening promptly where unsafe conditions or deviations from approved controls are identified. 

In this role, you will act as the on-site health & safety authority, working closely with project teams and contractors to ensure that activities are carried out safely and in compliance with Belgian regulations, client standards, and ERM requirements.

You will play a key role in identifying, assessing, and controlling risks, including those linked to chemical, physical, or other high-risk activities.

This is a hands-on, field-based position, ideal for someone who enjoys being close to operations and driving practical safety improvements on site.

What You Will Do

• Act as the primary H&S authority on site, supporting Project Managers and field teams
• Maintain a strong field presence, overseeing daily activities and high-risk operations
• Develop and review site-specific safety documentation, including HASP and JHAs
• Conduct risk assessments, site inspections, and audits, ensuring effective mitigation measures are implemented
• Identify and manage hazards (chemical, physical, biological where relevant) and ensure appropriate controls are applied
• Oversee contractor activities and ensure compliance with Belgian H&S legislation (Codex Well-being at Work) and client requirements
• Monitor the implementation of safe systems of work, PPE usage, and control measures
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and on-site training
• Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Maintain accurate safety records and reporting, tracking performance and compliance
• Exercise stop-work authority and intervene immediately when unsafe situations arise

About You

• Experience in a field-based H&S role, ideally within construction, industrial or petrochemical sectors
• Solid understanding of risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems
• Knowledge of Belgian safety regulations; experience on Antwerp industrial sites is a strong advantage
• Strong communication skills in Dutch (essential) and English; French is a plus
• Confident working on site, with the ability to challenge, influence, and drive safe behaviours
• A practical, hands-on mindset, with strong attention to detail and situational awareness
