POSITION SCOPE:

Under the direction of the Environmental Manager, and in accordance with the policies and procedures set out by Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, the Senior Land Guardian is responsible for leading fieldwork activities in Atikameksheng Anishnawbek’s traditional territory and providing mentorship to the Junior Land Guardian. Information collected through the Guardians program is intended to support Atikameksheng Anishnawbek’s decision making processes regarding our Traditional Territory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A post secondary diploma in Natural Resource Management or related diploma or degree program, OR


• A minimum of 3-year work experience in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences/Technology, other related work experience, OR


• A minimum of 5 years of being on the land hunting, fishing, or gathering

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide support in budget development.


• Communicate and engage with community members including elders, youth, land users and knowledge holders.


• Conduct biological surveys for species at risk (turtles, snakes, bats and birds and others)


• Participate in Traditional Knowledge Monitoring


• Participate in patrols of Atikameksheng’s Traditional Territory.


• Participate in project site inspections.


• Conduct ground truthing.


• Use GPS units to collect location information and assist with navigation.


• Make presentations to the public and conduct outreach events.


• Input data recorded in the field into spreadsheets and databases.
