POSITION SCOPE:


Atikameksheng Anishnawbek is hiring Environmental Monitors to work as part of a team of guardians protecting lands, waters and cultural heritage sites that are located along the Waasmoowin/Hydro One Transmission Lines, from Hanmer to 3rd Line in Sault Ste. Marie.  


 


Construction is expected to start in January 2027 on the Northeast Power Line- Hanmer to Mississagi section and in Fall 2027 on the North Shore Link – Misssissagi to 3rd Line section. There is a need to have trained Indigenous Monitors working ahead of the construction front, during construction, and after construction in order to protect the natural environment, sacred sites and Indigenous land and resource use.


 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Related experience in Forestry, Geology, Agriculture, Ecology, or Environmental Science

  • Knowledge of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Treaty territory

  • Strong interest in environmental and cultural heritage protection

  • Willingness to work outdoors in potentially adverse conditions (rain, bugs, heat, Cold)


 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Understanding & awareness of construction activities

  • Understanding & awareness of environmental compliance and traditional land use protection requirements

  • Assist with presentations to the public, community, and at outreach events.

  • Input data recorded in the field into spreadsheets and databases.
