About the Role 

We are looking for a 2D Pipeline Show TD to support an anime-style animated project. This is a hands-on production support role working across multiple departments within the 2D pipeline, including Backgrounds, Builds, Animation, FX, and related production teams. 

The ideal candidate understands the realities of a 2D animation production and enjoys solving technical challenges for artists, while also having experience with JavaScript. You’ll help ensure artists can work efficiently by troubleshooting DCC issues, supporting workflows, identifying pipeline improvements, and developing practical tools and solutions where needed. 

This is a collaborative role that sits between art, production, and technology, working closely with artists, supervisors, and production leadership. 

What You'll Do 

• Provide day-to-day technical support across the 2D production pipeline. 

• Support artists working in Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe Animate, and Adobe Photoshop. 

• Troubleshoot technical and workflow issues across departments, including: 

• Backgrounds 

• Builds / Character Builds 

• Animation 

• FX 

• Layout and related 2D departments 

• Investigate and resolve DCC, scene, asset, file, and workflow issues. 

• Help artists troubleshoot issues and develop practical solutions that keep production moving. 

• Support the setup, maintenance, and improvement of 2D production workflows and tools. 

• Identify repetitive or inefficient processes and help develop ways to automate or streamline them. 

• Assist with pipeline documentation, technical guidelines, and artist-facing resources. 

• Work with artists and supervisors to understand production needs and translate them into technical solutions. 

• Help maintain consistency and reliability across the 2D pipeline. 

• Collaborate with other Pipeline TDs, Production, and Technology teams where workflows cross departments. 

• Support troubleshooting and problem-solving throughout production, including urgent issues that may impact deadlines. 

• Contribute to improving the efficiency/code quality of the 2D pipeline. 

What You'll Bring 

• Professional experience as a 2D Pipeline TD, 2D Show TD, Technical Artist, Pipeline TD, or similar role within animation. 

• Strong understanding of 2D animation production workflows and the technical needs of artists. 

• Production experience with one or more of the following: 

1. Toon Boom Harmony 
2. Adobe Animate 
3. Adobe Photoshop 

• Experience supporting multiple departments within a 2D animation pipeline. 

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues and find practical solutions quickly. 

• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to artists and non-technical team members. 

• A service-oriented approach and willingness to work closely with artists to understand the problem behind a technical request. 

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Supervisors, Leads, Production, and other TDs. 

• Experience working in a fast-paced production environment with changing priorities. 

Nice to Have 

• Experience working on anime-style, stylized, or  hand-drawn animation. 

• Experience with Blender and/or integrating Blender into a 2D or hybrid 2D/3D workflow. 

• Scripting or programming experience, particularly Python. 

• Experience developing artist tools, scripts, plugins, or pipeline utilities. 

• Familiarity with 2D asset management, scene assembly, rendering, publishing, or version-control workflows. 

• Experience supporting hybrid 2D/3D pipelines. 

• Understanding of production tracking and pipeline systems. 

• Experience working across international or distributed animation teams. 

The Ideal Candidate 

You are someone who enjoys being the person artists can turn to when something isn't working. You understand that a good pipeline focuses on making artists' lives easier and helping them stay focused on creative work. 

You're comfortable moving between departments, digging into technical problems, and finding solutions that are practical, reliable, and production-friendly. You don't need to have every answer immediately, but you know how to investigate a problem, collaborate with the right people, and get to a solution. 

DCCs / Tools 

Required: Toon Boom Harmony, JavaScript, HTML, GitHub 

Nice to Have: Python, Adobe Animate, Adobe Photoshop, Blender, other scripting or pipeline development tools 

Pay Range: CAD $65,000 - $80,0000 per year
