Assistant Buyer

salary Salary :

$25 - 27.64 hourly

Job Description - Assistant Buyer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Procurement & Planning (85%)



  • Confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, delivery date. Prepare purchase order; enter into computer system and issue.

  • Place orders with vendors and arrange transportation as required. Advise Purchasing Logistics Manager of any issues or concerns.

  • Contact vendors with any discrepancies regarding quality or quantity.

  • Direct location for delivery, production location, warehouse, other, based upon inventory levels and projected usage rates.

  • Request all required paperwork from new vendors and assist Quality Control function to obtain necessary documentation.

  • Contact suppliers to resolve issues of missing receipt or product discrepancies.

  • Maintain accurate PO delivery dates and quantities in system.

  • Update delivery calendar for raw materials as needed.

  • Maintain log of receipt and release for all sugar deliveries and advise supplier when car is empty and released.

  • Coordinate oil requirements with production scheduler as needed.

  • Address identified discrepancies and take action to ensure proper results to meet production requirements.

  • Support Indirect Procurement activities, including contacting vendors, converting Purchase Requisitions into Purchase Orders, and following up on deliveries and/or discrepancies.


Administration (15%)



  • Provide administrative support to Purchasing Manager and Supply Chain Director as necessary.

  • Meet on a regular basis with Production Planners to address key raw material needs for the following week.

  • Operates within the core values of respect and care for others.

Physical Requirements:


General office environment with majority of time using computer

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures and code of conduct


Comply with workplace uniform requirements and safety gear, when on the plant floor v. office

  • Operate with a high set of standards to produce consistent, quality-driven results

  • Respect work hours and schedules, timely attendance, and notice requirements for absences or lateness


Skills and Work Experience Requirements:



  • One (1) year related purchasing materials experience with ability to negotiate rates and service terms for stock items

  • Ability to maintain computerized inventory record keeping system; excellent mathematical abilities

  • Proficient in current computer software, Microsoft Office, excel with strong typing skills

  • Communication –strong written and verbal communication skills; strong telephone skills; able to effectively exchange information; negotiate basic terms

  • Organization & Planning – highly organized, detail orientated; able to multi-task, work on multiple activities; strong time management; able to work independently


Problem Solving – analytical problem solver with strong ability to interpret, analyze and present information; ability to read and interpret documents including order forms, bill of lading


Education:


Associate degree, Business Administration or related Supply Chain Operations discipline

A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range at the time of posting is below. The base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits. The actual base salary within the specified range is based on several factors, including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior relevant experience, education, certifications, job responsibilities, market considerations and, if applicable, the location of the position.


This position pays between $25.00 - $27.64 per hour.
