Assistant/Associate Professor, Division of Pediatric Cardiology, Section of Electrophysiology

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor level invasive pediatric electrophysiologist to join as a full-time tenured track faculty within the Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. This position is a part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) and the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA). 

This position is a full time (1.0 FTE) tenure track (contingent) position, 60-65% clinical service and 35-40% academic pursuits including research, teaching, and administrative duties (negotiable). 

• Clinical Excellence: Clinical service would include inpatient and outpatient electrophysiology and general cardiology care, general cardiology and subspecialty (heart rhythm device, electrophysiology and multidisciplinary inherited arrhythmia) outpatient clinics, and invasive electrophysiology procedures on pediatric and adult CHD patients. 
• Education & Mentorship: Teaching expectations would include mentoring of cardiology residents and electrophysiology fellows, formative and bedside teaching as well as research supervision. 
• Research Contribution: Academic productivity is assessed based on locally initiated clinical research, national and international collaborations, publications in peer-reviewed journals and other related activities. 
• Collaboration & Engagement: The faculty would work closely with other programs, interdisciplinary teams, and healthcare professionals to advance Pediatric Cardiology care and the education of Pediatric Cardiology trainees. 

Interested applicants must have: 

• MD degree (or equivalent) 
• Completed subspecialty training in Pediatrics and subspecialty training in Pediatric Cardiology 
• Minimum 1 year of dedicated training in advanced Invasive Pediatric Electrophysiology
• Expertise in the management of patients with inherited arrhythmias 
• Experience in CIED device implantation 
• A track record of publications for mid-career faculty or active involvement in research for junior faculty 
• Certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Pediatric Cardiology) or equivalent
• Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s first and largest province-wide, fully integrated health system, responsible for delivering health services to the over four million people living in Alberta as well as to some residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. The Stollery Children’s Hospital is a full-service pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta. It has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children’s hospital in Canada and serves a geographical area of over 500,000 km. 

The successful applicant will join currently 20 pediatric cardiologists and one associated researcher providing a full spectrum of clinical pediatric cardiology services with expertise in multi-modal diagnostic imaging, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, fetal cardiology, heart failure, cardiac transplantation, ventricular assist device application, preventive cardiology and pediatric cardiac rehabilitation within the Stollery Children’s Hospital Cardiac Program. The  Stollery Cardiac Program is one of the two largest cardiac surgical programs in Canada, and we service the majority of children across Western Canada, with 3 pediatric and congenital cardiac surgeons, several pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, a dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, and a surgical neonatal intensive care unit with expertise in neonatal cardiac care.  
As of April 1, 2026, the electrophysiology service currently includes two electrophysiologists and an EP nurse specialist, further supported by specialized nurses in the heart rhythm device clinics and electrophysiology laboratories. The service delivers advanced electrophysiology care  including complex ablation and cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implant  procedures, complex lead extractions and care for patients on mechanical cardiac support.  Ablation procedures are performed in a state-of-the-art electrophysiology laboratory with 3D  electro-anatomical mapping capabilities and a full complement of mapping and ablation catheters and ancillary equipment. Other device procedures are performed in a procedure room or a hybrid operating room.
