The Opportunity

Bosun’s main responsibilities include controlling the operations on the deck.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:


• Setting up the daily work schedule under the direction of the Chief Officer and allocating the necessary tasks to the proper deck crew members


• Organizing deck operations and supplies


• Maintaining the deck of the ship; tasks involve chipping, painting, buffing, etc., and overall maintenance of the deck.


• The ship's windlass must be maintained to function at its best during stations


• Carry out any necessary repairs onboard 


• Ensuring that mooring, anchoring, or vessel activities are carried out effectively


• Being the connection between the officers and the crew regarding shipboard work


• Inform the Chief Officer of the progress of the deck work being carried out

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience as Bosun.


• STCW Reg. II/5 rating as able seafarer deck 


• STCW Reg. VI/1 safety familiarization, basic training, and instruction for all seafarers 


• STCW Reg. VI/2 proficiency in survival craft, rescue boats, and fast rescue boats


• SOLAS Ch III, Evacuation Slide training


• STCW Reg. VI/6 security-related training and instruction for all seafarers


• STCW Crowd management training


• STCW Special training for ro/ro passenger ships


• Forklift driver training


• Excellent comprehension and command of the English language; (written & verbal);


• Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.

Working Conditions

• Repetitive, physical activity involved (walking, kneeling, reaching, lifting)


• Lifting light to medium weight (up to 20 to 50lbs)


• Exposure to environmental elements including extreme weather conditions.
