Children%27s Fitness Instructor - Mind/Body/Choreography

• Completion of Grade 12 or GED
• Knowledge and experience in leading dance and obstacle course skills with preschool and school-aged children
• Demonstrated ability to teach progressive dance and fundamental movement skills

Assets:

• Current enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Personal Fitness Training, or a related degree or diploma
• Proven experience instructing both small and large groups
• Knowledge of High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development and Canadian Sport for Life Fundamentals

• Adaptability\: Capacity to modify drills and activities on the fly to accommodate different learning paces and physical abilities

Conditions of Employment:

• Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
• Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications

Work Environment:

• Due to the nature of this work, this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
• The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
• Shift work requirements - Evening and weekend work is required as well as working at various City of Edmonton locations
• This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states

Are you a dynamic and energetic instructor with a passion for dance, obstacle courses, and fundamental movement skills? The Sport and Recreation Branch is looking for professional and qualified individuals to join our team to instruct our Mini Movers and Super Movers classes. In this role, you will use your leadership skills to guide preschool and school-aged children through active, engaging programming. Your primary focus will be to develop participants' physical literacy by delivering group instruction that is progressive, challenging, and adaptive. By maintaining high enthusiasm and creating a safe, inclusive environment, you will play a key role in promoting the benefits of healthy living to young community partners.

What will you do?

• Plan and lead preschool and school-aged children in various creative dance and obstacle courses
• Instruct fundamental movement skills through dance movements and obstacle courses to develop participants' physical literacy
• Deliver and lead group instruction in the time frame and manner determined by the class description
• Lead progressive, challenging classes that adapt to meet the varying skill levels and abilities of participants
• Create a high-energy, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere that motivates participants to improve on their progress throughout the class
• Provide outstanding customer service to participants, families, and patrons
• Provide substitute coverage for other instructors and attend professional development workshops and training as needed
• Ensure program spaces are kept tidy and orderly before, during, and after classes
• Accurately track program documentation, including attendance, participant evaluations, and incident reports
• Other related duties as required
