GeoComply is seeking a talented Legal Counsel to join our busy and growing central Legal team. In this role, you will manage a variety of interesting and challenging legal projects, serving as a trusted business partner across commercial and operational functions. We are looking for a self-starter who is eager to learn the ins-and-outs of our business, manage complex legal matters, and drive strategic initiatives to support our global growth and protect our interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing, drafting, interpreting, and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including non-disclosure, customer, license, consulting, leasing, vendor, and data processing agreements.
- Together with the broader Legal team, developing and implementing comprehensive and coordinated legal strategy and activities across various commercial functions (including revenue, business development, marketing, product, and customer success) and departments (including OneComply, Betting Hero, and other current or future subsidiaries or affiliates).
- Strategizing with internal stakeholders on global expansion matters; enabling and empowering the company to maximize new business opportunities in a legally compliant manner.
- Advising with respect to a variety of privacy and data protection initiatives, including legal compliance, privacy risk identification and mitigation, internal privacy and data governance structures, and privacy-related contractual matters including data processing agreements and other similar instruments.
- Supporting the company and its global subsidiaries and affiliates on employment, intellectual property, legal process, equity plan management and other similar legal matters.
- Conducting research on emerging areas of law and best practices in tech transactions; assessing legal risks and their impact on business operations; advising key business stakeholders accordingly.
- Managing relationships with strategic commercial counterparties (including various customers, vendors, and their legal counsel), professional advisors, and government authorities.
- Developing and maintaining legal templates, precedents, playbooks, databases, guidelines, and other materials and resources.
- Any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the company or your manager from time to time, consistent with your position.
Who You Are
- Law degree from a highly-ranked university and full qualification to practice law in an in-house environment in North America.
- Approximately 3 to 8 years’ experience as a lawyer in a top-tier law firm or in-house department (or some combination thereof); prior in-house experience, especially in a high-growth tech company environment, is highly valued.
- A proven track record of working with and advising North American headquartered, global businesses on cross-border legal functions would be an added benefit.
- Experience reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating commercial contracts for products, services, and technology; and working with a variety of vendors, suppliers, and service providers.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with privacy, data protection and other similar areas of law.
- Comfortable working with outside resources, contractors, and legal counsel.
- Impeccable attention to detail, well-organized, and takes initiative to anticipate future needs, identify issues, and propose and implement solutions.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills; plus the ability to distill and concisely communicate complex legal issues and advance clear, confident, and strongly supported recommendations and decisions.
