Position Overview:

Finning Canada is looking for an Internal Communications Advisor to tell the stories that matter. You’ll help bring our strategy and culture to life through clear, engaging, people-first communications. Reporting to the Communications Manager, you’ll partner primarily with the HR Team and with leaders and other teams across the company to translate complex initiatives into messages that resonate—whether that’s an executive update, a change initiative, or a story that celebrates our people.

Success requires sound judgment, discretion, and intellectual curiosity, along with the confidence to navigate sensitive topics and facilitate thoughtful, positive conversations in a dynamic environment. This role is ideal for someone who’s great at making connections, can build their internal network, is agile and strongly collaborative.

Job Description:

What you’ll do

  • Lead internal communications strategies and plans that support HR-led initiatives and business priorities.
  • Create and manage compelling content across channels including employee updates and all employee calls, employee experience communications, recruitment and onboarding content, and leader communications.
  • Develop employee and team profiles that spotlight the work and impact of our people.
  • Contribute to crisis communications and cybersecurity communication planning and preparedness as well as other communications projects as they arise.
  • Manage multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders delivering high-quality work in a fast-moving environment.

What you bring

  • People connections: you build trust quickly, collaborate naturally, and can influence without authority across all levels of the organization.
  • Storytelling skills: you turn complex or technical information into clear, engaging, plain-language messages for diverse audiences.
  • Trust: you demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and integrity when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Planning: you have strong organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Practicality: you have sound judgment and are comfortable navigating sensitive topics in a thoughtful, collaborative way.

Qualifications

  • 6–10 years of progressive experience in journalism or communications, ideally including internal communications or similar experience.
  • 3+ years partnering directly with senior leaders in a large organization to develop and deliver communications strategies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Note:

  • Apply with your resume and (if available) a small portfolio of internal communications samples (e.g., executive announcements, change communications, stories/profiles, or campaign examples).

At Finning, we prioritize creating a diverse and inclusive environment. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and we actively encourage all individuals to express themselves and achieve their full potential. As a company, we continuously strive to enhance our outreach to individuals of all backgrounds and identities.
