Location: East coast of Labrador (approximately 350 km North of Goose Bay and 35 km Southwest of Nain)
Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off
Shift Length: 12 hours
Travel: Flight from airport closest to point of hire 
Accommodation: Remote site - Camp setting

Scope of work:

 

Innu Inuit Redpath Limited Partnership (IIR) will be the primary contractor on an underground mine project located on the east coast of Labrador, approximately 350 km north of Goose Bay. Future mining from the two separate underground deposits will extend the life of this operation for at least another decade. Both deposits contain Nickel and Copper and at peak production, 2.54 million tons will be mined annually. The work consists of building/ installing mine infrastructure such as high pressure doors, regulator walls, wash bays, maintenance bays, fuel bay, etc.

 

Job Summary:

 

The primary role of the Construction Supervisor is to plan, organize and control activities of a construction group, to ensure the project is completed in accordance to company standards and safety practices; to liaise with technical personnel and to update the site management on activities, progress and challenges; to suggest methods and procedures to minimize project cost to ensure the work meets design specifications according to client requirements.

 



Responsibilities
  • Assist project engineering and construction management, when necessary, in clarifying or defining parameters and deciding on processes to be utilized

  • Monitor operations activities to ensure construction progress on the project is within expectations

  • Take appropriate action as critical dates approach to ensure a smooth transition from phase to phase

  • Organize, develop and lead crew to achieve planned objective

  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and client authorized project work schedules to achieve desired results

  • Supervise sub-contractors and ensure all work is completed according to Redpath safety standards

  • Ensure that subcontractors have current and accurate plans and specifications

  • Act as principal coordinator and liaison with subcontractors to ensure contract compliance

  • Establish expectations with subcontractors and vendors to ensure solid understanding of contract requirements (including documentation and information), expectations, and timing of required construction and materials to finish on schedule

Health and Safety:

  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to the supervisor

  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

  • Work in accordance with local legislation



Qualifications

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Lead Construction Miner or relevant, related construction role in an underground mining environment - Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic or other provincial equivalent Required

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Front Line Supervisor – Common Core or another provincial equivalent - preferred

  • Must understand the underground work environment

  • Must understand the responsibilities of leadership

  • Ability to multitask and work effectively

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

  • Able to work in a team environment and lead by example

  • Willing to mentor others

  • Ability to read civil prints

  • Basic understanding of Mine Regulations pertaining to tasks

  • Ability to conduct a risk assessment of specific task

  • Understanding of work-related procedures and standards

  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required
