About the Role
We'koqma'q First Nation is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) to provide in-home care and support services to community members. Reporting to the Homecare Supervisor, the successful candidate will assist clients in maintaining their independence, dignity, and quality of life while remaining safely in their own homes.
This position is community-based and involves regular travel to clients' residences throughout We'koqma'q.
Key Responsibilities
Provide personal care assistance, including:
Bathing
Grooming
Dressing
Toileting
Mobility and transfers
Feeding and hydration support
Assist clients with activities of daily living.
Support clients with meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, and changing bed linens.
Provide respite support to families and caregivers.
Observe and report changes in a client's physical, emotional, or social well-being.
Maintain accurate client records and documentation.
Promote client independence, safety, and self-reliance.
Work collaboratively with nurses, healthcare providers, family members, and community support services.
Follow all health, safety, confidentiality, and infection prevention protocols.
Participate in training and professional development opportunities as required.
Qualifications
Required
Graduate of a recognized Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Program
Current CCA Certification
Current CPR and First Aid Certification
Valid Class 5 Driver's License
Reliable transportation
Ability to travel throughout the community to provide in-home services
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple client visits
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
Assets
Experience working in home care, long-term care, or community care settings
Knowledge of Mi'kmaq culture, traditions, and community supports
WHMIS Certification
Food Handler Certification
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in clients' homes throughout the community.
Frequent travel is required.
Position requires lifting, transferring, and assisting clients with mobility and personal care needs.
May require occasional evening, weekend, or emergency coverage.
