Description

Under the mentorship and coaching of CI leadership and other team members, the Continuous Improvement Specialist II is responsible for scoping, leading, and implementing continuous improvement projects to improve; safety, quality, costs, delivery and/or morale. This position will support the business in achieving target performance, working across Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Planning, and Program Management.  This may include facilitating process change and development, performing assessments and root cause analysis, lessons learned capture, and the application of lean enterprise and design for Six Sigma.    

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and deliver improvement projects as assigned, through collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including scoping the project, communication of progress and results, monitoring effectiveness, and ensuring sustainability. 
  • Performs root cause analysis, and project planning to prioritize and initiate improvement projects, both internally and in support of other departments. 
  • Support colleagues CI initiatives, potentially cross functional. 
  • Share and promote continuous improvement best practice with other employees and managers to develop skillsets and facilitate a continuous improvement culture. 
  • Support the development, implementation, and sustainment of the shipyard’s improvement processes and systems. 
  • Research, evaluate, and implement current industry best practice methods, procedures, and technology, as relevant to assigned projects. 
  • Mentor and coach others in the use of process improvement tools and techniques 
  • Write executive summaries, trending cost savings, cost avoidance and capacity increase initiatives.  
  • Utilizing data-based decisions, coordinate and own the implementation of performance improvement activities within departments, through close collaboration with all employees.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

What you'll bring:

  • Formal trade, engineering or business education; or equivalent technical background. 
  • 3 or more years post-secondary experience working in a Continuous Improvement related position with a strong interest in manufacturing. 
  • Prior experience in shipbuilding/heavy manufacturing is desirable. 
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification, or comparable experience with proven CI project execution history. 
  • Predictive analytics skills using statistical software and data mining. 
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, leadership, and facilitation skills. 
  • Understanding of how to quantify project benefits to the business and relate to the overall business strategy. 
  • High degree of tenacity, self-motivation, innovation, and critical thinking. 
  • Ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems. 
  • Excellent analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesise data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills including the ability to produce and present clear technical specifications, presentations, procedures, and reports. 
  • Knowledge of process improvement techniques 
  • Project management experience, PMP or Agile certification is an asset. 
  • Understanding of organizational change management. 
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding and heavy manufacturing processes. 
  • Good organizational skills including the ability to maintain organization in a changing environment, multi-task and establish priorities. 
  • PC proficiency required.  Advanced knowledge of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint). 
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, and process analysis tools and methodologies. 
  • Working knowledge of document control systems and databases. (Computer Aided Design software knowledge is an asset) 
  • Ability to generate innovative and simple cost effective solutions

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
