What’s the role
The position will report to the Instrumentation/Analyzer Maintenance Team Leader (MTL)– Refinery in the Production Department. The successful candidate will focus on Instrumentation & Analyzer maintenance and reliability.
The Craft Team Member (CTM) is accountable to perform maintenance and troubleshooting activities within their skill set in support of safe, reliable operations. Work is guided by their MTL and the CTM works with other team members to deliver a combined maintenance schedule. Working closely with other craft disciplines as they execute repairs and perform preventative maintenance to deliver high reliability and efficient equipment care.
It should be noted that Shell Scotford consists of two (2) Upgraders as well as a Refinery and Chemicals plant. Refinery and Chemicals are represented by Unifor Local Union 530A and as such, successful candidates hired to join the Refinery and Chemicals Asset will be members of the Union upon hire. New employees will be provided with more details of the Collective Bargaining Agreement by a Union Representative during regular onboarding sessions. The Upgraders are not represented by a Union body.
Accountabilities
Verify and execute work as defined on approved work orders
Active engaged in ensuring the safety of self and co-workers, providing, and accepting interventions to achieve Goal Zero and adheres to Shell Scotford policies and Shell’s Life Saving rules
Troubleshoot, test, calibrate, and repair electronic and pneumatic process field devices and equipment such as Various type analyzers, control valves, control loops primary field devices
Collaborate with technical support, operations, and engineering groups on reliability programs, root cause analysis, risk analysis, and failure mode cause‑and‑effect analysis as required
Provide input into shutdown work scope and overhaul issues
Aid in integrity audits of equipment installations (for new projects)
Assist in the development/updating of preventative maintenance systems, spare part programs, maintenance practices and infrastructure issues
Perform lead roles and direct work of contractors and other Shell Craft Team Members as required
Support the business\assets with various coverages\Projects and turn arounds
Support different assets by working outside of the primary hired location as required
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Must possess a valid driver's license
At least 5 years as a ticketed Journeyperson Instrument/Analyzer Technician/Mechanic
Strong process Instrumentation Maintenance and Knowledge
Troubleshooting and maintenance experience with Fieldvue and other smart devices, Bentley vibration monitoring systems, and a wide range of analytical instruments including CEMS (SICK and Ametek 900–910), gas chromatographs (ABB and Siemens), mass spectrometers, pH/conductivity, HACH silica/chlorine, TOC, and O₂/combustibles analyzers; experience with these technologies is considered an asset
Strong safety consciousness and situational awareness in all that the Craft Team Member does
Embraces technology including a strong digital skillset - Skill level understanding of Office 365 including OneNote and MS Teams, Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate), P6 Team member and use of iPad are assets
Excellent safety record and a safety mindset
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
High level of ownership for the quality and condition of the devices used to maintain safe unit operation
Experience in an industrial environment is an asset
Experience in custody transfer and meter proving would be an asset
Facilitation and conflict resolution skills are an asset
Cooperative, constructive approach to situations that speaks to the Craft Team Member’s respect and consideration of others
Possesses interpersonal skills to deal with a wide range of people, in a wide range of situations, often in the context of a team environment
Demonstrates ability to perform under pressure
Ability to learn from others and share learning's
Ability to be able to read piping and instrument diagrams and Loop drawings
Willingness to share knowledge with co-workers and train apprentices
Commitment to continuous learning
Demonstrates ability to work effectively with Operations / Management / Equipment Specialists & Engineering
Competent in standard computer operations and Microsoft Office
Some travel may be required, along with overtime and after-hours coverage as needed
Willing to work nights, weekends, holidays and be on-call to respond to emergencies when required
Willing to work outdoors in inclement weather
Able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces.
Must reside within the area or be willing to relocate
Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level
Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures
Willing to work in a diverse and team-oriented environment
A condition of employment for this position is successful completion of a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, background check, driving record check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs
