Job Description

 

  • Design electrical systems for solar PV, hybrid (Solar + Grid + Diesel), and battery energy storage applications;
  • Perform advanced AC and DC system calculations including:
    • Load flow analysis,
    • Cable sizing and voltage drop,
    • Protection coordination and device selection,
    • Battery autonomy and lifecycle modelling,
  • Develop detailed single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, grounding layouts, panel and cabinet layouts;
  • Support present and future grid-connected / utility-interactive system interconnection requirements;
  • Assist in the design and application of transformers, switchgear and LV/MV distribution equipment;
  • Support the integration of protection and control, PLC, SCADA and monitoring systems;
  • Prepare equipment specifications, datasheets, Bills of Material (BOMs) and material take-offs;
  • Review and coordinate vendor technical submissions and engineering documentation;
  • Participate in technical evaluation of suppliers, technologies and design options;
  • Contribute to proposal development, RFP technical documentation and estimating support;
  • Support FAT, SAT and commissioning activities as required;
  • Conduct site visits and technical assessments;
  • Prepare design reports, calculation summaries and as-built documentation;
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with codes, standards and client expectations;
  • Mentor junior designers and contribute to knowledge development within the team;
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering tools, templates and workflows.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering (or equivalent);
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience in:
    • Solar PV or hybrid power systems,
    • Battery storage / DC systems,
    • AC power distribution or utility-connected power systems,
  • Demonstrated experience preparing SLDs, wiring diagrams, panel layouts and system documentation;
  • Strong understanding of:
    • AC & DC electrical distribution,
    • Grounding & bonding practices,
    • Transformers & switchgear,
    • Protection & control principles,
  • Experience with AutoCAD / EPLAN or equivalent;
  • Familiarity with CEC, CSA, IEC, IEEE standards (asset);
  • Experience working with utilities, EPCs or industrial clients (asset);
  • Strong written, interpersonal and technical communication skills;
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects;
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) eligibility is an asset;
  • Proficiency in spoken and written French and English is required (collaboration with teams located outside the Province of Quebec – 15% of the vice-presidency’s teams are based outside Quebec, and clients located outside the Province of Quebec – 70% of the vice-presidency’s clientele is outside Quebec);
