What You Will Do

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Systems, you support technical, project management, and delivery activities within the New Technology and Innovation team. Your work focuses on scouting, evaluating, and piloting emerging technologies across TTC assets, including vehicle fleets and infrastructure, through research, simulations, controlled testing, and pilot programs.

Specifically you will:

• Research and assess new technologies to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and customer experience. You plan and execute testing programs, collect and validate data, and analyze performance, safety, and overall value.


• Troubleshoot complex issues across electrical, mechanical, software, and related systems, and support system integration, commissioning, safety certification, and warranty processes.


• Prepare technical documents, reports, and presentations, and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions. You also coordinate technical work with internal teams and external vendors.


• Support project planning, track progress, and provide updates to stakeholders. You coordinate activities across teams, assist with procurement, and maintain organized documentation.


• Inform management  of risks and issues, support investigations into safety-critical incidents, and recommend improvements to systems, processes, and procedures.


• Represent the TTC in meetings and stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies. You may act for the Senior Engineer, Systems, when required.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

• You hold a university degree or college diploma in a related field (such as Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering or Engineering Technology), or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• You are registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.

• You have a strong understanding of conventional and electric propulsion systems, along with electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems used in transit vehicles and their subsystems (e.g., engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, braking, and communication systems such as CANbus and J1939).

• You have experience with vehicle testing programs and procedures and are familiar with data acquisition tools such as data loggers, signal transducers, and sensors (including accelerometers, pressure sensors, strain gauges, microphones, and thermocouples), as well as diagnostic equipment.

• You have experience working with data analysis tools to assess vehicle and fleet performance and are open to learning or using programming languages for data processing.

• You understand government regulations, safety standards, and legislation related to urban transit vehicles. You also have working knowledge of project management principles and can support or coordinate medium-sized projects or studies.

• You bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and attention to detail. You are well organized and have solid research, design, and technical writing skills.

• You communicate clearly and work effectively in a team environment, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• You are proficient with computers and common software tools, including Microsoft Office, and have experience with design tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

• A valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G driver’s licence would be an asset.
