Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.


 


Position Overview

The Shared Health Mental Health and Addictions program provides a range of mental health and addiction services across the healthcare continuum that support and promote recovery. Through collaboration and partnership across various health, social service and community sectors the program strives to promote mental health and well-being for all, to reduce inequities and the impact of mental health and addiction problems and to work towards sustainability of mentally healthy individuals and communities.


The Forensic Program Support Worker will assist in carrying out community reintegration plans with the input of the Forensic Mental Health Program, Selkirk Mental Health Center Forensic Program, Youth Forensic Psychiatry Program, the Criminal Code Review Board and Manitoba Justice Prosecutions. The Forensic Program Support Worker is responsible for supporting risk management plans, rehabilitative and supportive functions including community reintegration, skill building/enhancement, creation and maintenance of formal and informal support networks, provide applicable accurate information and consultation with families as related to skill building/enhancement and development of supports. The ability to build and sustain relationships with high risk youth and adults is desired. Knowledge of Indigenous culture and history is desired. Knowledge of appropriate community resources to support identified intervention activities is desired.


Experience


  • A minimum of two years of related experience with people with mental health issues.


Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)


  • University or College education in human services, other related disciplines, or high school diploma and related training.

  • Knowledge and an acceptable level of expertise in the risk factors associated with risk to self and/or others, crisis intervention, service coordination and community consultation.

  • Able to use problem resolution skills to handle sensitive and complex issues related to multiple service involvement and interdisciplinary teams within the forensic mental health and criminal justice systems.


Certification/Licensure/Registration


  • Requires a valid driver's license and a vehicle.


Qualifications and Skills


  • Excellent time management, organizational, prioritization and decision-making skills.

  • Knowledge of and experience in working with individuals involved within the Forensic Mental Health System and the Criminal Justice System.

  • Demonstrated skills and competence to establish supportive, trusting relationships with stakeholders.

  • Skills in assessing, planning, development and coordination of services related to involvement with the Forensic System, the Criminal Justice System and recovery.

  • Demonstrate flexibility, creativity and be an enthusiastic team member.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Effective networking and agency relations skills.


Physical Requirements


  • Evening and weekend work will be required.
