Reporting to the Executive Director of Iqaluit Health Services, The French Language Interpreter/Accreditation Project Officer is responsible for supporting Iqaluit Health Services (IHS) by providing French and English translation between clients, doctors, nursing, allied health professionals, relatives and other visitors as required. The incumbent impacts on the delivery of high-quality health services by contributing to Iqaluit Health Service’s compliance with national best practices and standards as set by Accreditation Canada.  The role supports the IHS team in the development of policy, procedure, practices, and planning as related to Accreditation. The position works closely with the Executive Director, Quality Assurance-Risk Management Coordinator, and the Senior Leadership Team.

The French Language Interpreter/Accreditation Project Officer’s main responsibilities, include, but are not limited to: 

• Providing French and English translation services by interpreting physician, nurse, and other professional staff questions and explanations in terminology understandable to the patient;
• Providing research support on best practices throughout IHS on Accreditation processes and standards by managing information input into the HIS Accreditation portal;
• Supporting IHS Accreditation teams in the implementation of standards, action plans and resources in a professional and timely manner by preparing minutes, agendas and reports for all levels of the organization, ensuring timely follow up on action item;
• Reviewing existing IHS practices to ensure uniformity; identifying gaps and recommending remedial action to the Quality Assurance Risk Management Coordinator;
• Assisting in the development and strategic implementation of the Accreditation communications plan by acting as the liaison between Iqaluit Health Services and Health Communications to ensure that Accreditation communication plans and messages are shared accordingly.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized certificate in business administration, health services or a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in program coordination, project management or related field including experience in providing translation and interpretation services. The ability to communicate (oral and written) in both English and French is also required for this position.   This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in French is required for the position.  Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
