Position Summary


The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment and light-duty vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role performs preventative maintenance, completes accurate maintenance records, and supports Apprentices through mentorship while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.


Key Responsibilities



  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on heavy equipment and light-duty vehicles.

  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on loaders, excavators, dozers, trucks, and other equipment.

  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records using fleet management software.

  • Inspect equipment and identify required repairs or maintenance.

  • Mentor and support Apprentices by sharing technical knowledge and promoting safe work practices.

  • Travel to customer job sites and Tłı̨chÇ« communities as operational requirements dictate.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and manufacturer specifications.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


The ideal candidate will possess:



  • Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification (4th Year Apprentices are encouraged to apply).

  • 4–5 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment.

  • Experience working on loaders, excavators, dozers, and other heavy equipment.

  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and repair skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Valid Class 5 (or higher) Driver's Licence.


Working Conditions


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to lift heavy components and tools.

  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Operate company vehicles and equipment safely.


Work Environment



  • Shop and field service environments.

  • Daily travel to customer job sites.

  • Occasional travel to Tłı̨chÇ« communities.

  • Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and changing weather conditions.


Mental Demands



  • Ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues under time constraints.

  • Prioritize multiple repair tasks and meet operational deadlines.

  • Maintain attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment.
