Position Summary


Job Type:                          Full-time, permanent


Hours of Work:                 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday - Friday


Reporting to:                     Housing Manager


Department:                      Housing


 


The Housing Support Coordinator (HSC) provides housing stability support, access to housing, eviction prevention, and connections to services for Elders in independent living, community members who are unhoused or at risk, and others facing housing barriers. This role focuses on coordinating supports to ensure wraparound care, including assistance with housing applications, rental assistance, and access to housing-related benefits. The HSC works closely with Tla'amin Nation’s Community Services and Health departments, as well as external service providers, to ensure vulnerable community members receive the support they need.


 


Key Responsibilities


Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin laws, regulations, policies, practices and procedures as directed by the Housing Manager. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to citizens, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.


 



  • Provide housing-related support and advocacy for tenants and community members at risk of losing housing.

  • Act as the main point of contact for tenants in the Elders’ independent living facility, supporting tenancy stability and well-being.

  • Assist community members with housing applications, rental subsidies, and access to housing-related benefits.

  • Collaborate with the Community Services and Health Departments to connect tenants with appropriate supports, such as home care, mental health services, and financial assistance.

  • Assist unhoused or at-risk community members in navigating housing options, rental assistance, and eviction prevention resources.

  • Develop and implement early intervention strategies to prevent evictions and housing instability.

  • Conduct regular check-ins with Elders and vulnerable tenants to ensure their housing and support needs are met.

  • Document all interactions and maintain clear case records for tenants receiving support. Keep clear, up-to-date, and confidential records.

  • Work with the Tenant Relations Coordinator and Housing Manager to develop housing retention strategies.

  • Assist in transition planning for community members moving into or out of Nation housing.



  • Other related duties as required.  


 


Qualifications


Training, Education, Experience



  • Degree in social work (BSW or MSW), a related field, and/or a combination of relevant education and experience. Registered or eligible for registration as an RSW is preferred.

  • 3–5 years of experience supporting vulnerable populations, particularly in a housing-related or social services role.

  • Experience working with First Nations Elders and communities, or in a culturally safe environment, is preferred.

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those at risk of homelessness.

  • Class 5 Driver’s License and acceptable Driver’s Abstract.

  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).


 


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities



  • Knowledge of housing and homelessness support services in British Columbia.

  • Strong problem-solving and advocacy skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality within a small community.

  • Ability to collaborate with community services, health, and social service providers to ensure wraparound supports for tenants.

  • Ability to work in culturally safe and trauma-informed ways

  • Skilled in conflict resolution.

  • Ability to conduct home visits when needed.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Strong computer skills including MS Office.

  • Strong cultural sensitivity with a deep respect for Tla’amin Nation culture, traditions and protocols.


 


Working Conditions


Work is performed primarily in an office environment and other community locations. Some home visit work is required. Occasional travel to attend meetings or training is required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
