Job Description - Indigenous Healthy Living Program Worker

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: 


The Indigenous Healthy Living Program Worker is responsible for designing, developing, coordinating, facilitating, monitoring and evaluating healthy lifestyle programs based on community needs and interests with the intent to improve health status through increased physical fitness, improved cardiovascular health, smoking reduction, and improved nutritional knowledge and practices.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Preferred education in a Sports and Recreation related Degree / Diploma and or equivalent experience and certification (i.e., Fitness Instructors Specialist Certification, etc.)

  • Must have a passion for, and be willing to role model, healthy lifestyle behaviours.

  • Must have experience in physical fitness training or be willing and capable of being certified in order to facilitate a broad range of physical fitness programs.

  • Must have knowledge about healthy lifestyle behaviours; specifically, nutrition, healthy weight, and the benefits of living smoke-free.

  • Must have experience in program planning, development, implementation, data collection and evaluation; strong facilitation skills and experience presenting educational workshops and working with groups.

  • Must have knowledge of Indigenous culture and the social reality that Indigenous youth, women, and seniors experience in urban settings; knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) will be considered an asset.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, including database applications.

  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented setting; ability to problem solve and take initiative.

  • Must possess strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills.

  • Able to engage people, build trust and rapport; effective verbal and listening communication skills.

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and/or weekends.

  • Current First Aid / CPR and Safe Food Handling Certification.

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and the use of a vehicle.

  • A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance is a condition of employment.
