About Us


 


Cigar Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s highest-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at Cigar Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to power a secure energy future.


 


The Role


 


Under the guidance and direction of the Safety Officer, this role is intended to commit a minimum of 80% of its time in the field, including surface and underground areas. Duties include reviewing and revising safety documentation, as well as supporting workplace health and safety programs through education and mentoring to various levels of the organization. The successful candidate will be expected to be an active member of our Emergency Response Program.


 


In this role, you will:


 



  • Work as a member of the health and safety team;

  • Be responsible for safety program data collection and management;

  • Participate in workplace inspections and work with people to help them better understand safe workplace requirements;

  • Once qualified, participate in confined space testing;

  • Attend safety toolbox meetings and present safety-related topics;

  • Take an active role in hazard identification and recommend corrective actions.



Required:  


 



  • Diploma or certificate in occupational health and safety or a related field;

  • Two to four years of relevant work experience;

  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered;

  • Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.


 


Recommended:


 



  • Construction Safety Officer designation;

  • Emergency Response Team (ERT) experience;

  • Fire extinguisher maintenance certification;

  • Effective computer and software skills;

  • Underground mining experience;

  • Standard Level First Aid.
