Your Impact Starts Here

Graham is recruiting an Intermediate Mechanical Estimator to support the Industrial Alberta Pre‑Construction team, based in Edmonton. Reporting to the Estimating Director, this role supports or leads estimating efforts on higher‑complexity pursuits and may independently estimate small to medium‑sized projects with senior oversight.

The Intermediate Mechanical Estimator is responsible for defining project scope, reviewing tender documents and specifications, completing accurate quantity take‑offs and costing for mechanical scopes (including piping, structural steel, equipment, and insulation), managing deadlines, mentoring junior team members, and collaborating with internal teams and trade partners to develop competitive estimates using market knowledge and historical data across industrial sectors.

Your Role in Building What Matters - From Office to Site

  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate mechanical cost estimates for industrial projects, including piping, structural steel, equipment, insulation, and related scopes across sectors such as oil & gas, mining, petrochemical, energy, and pulp & paper

  • Determine project scope and complete detailed estimate quantification and costing, including labour, equipment, materials, subcontractor scopes, and productivities, using company‑standard estimating programs and historical data

  • Analyze tender documents, drawings, and specifications to assess constructability, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend cost‑effective solutions based on engineering quality, material availability, and market conditions

  • Develop estimating strategies and support competitive bids, including assembling conceptual and budget estimates, analyzing subcontractor bids, proposing innovations, and participating in or leading bid closes with senior estimator oversight

  • Support project planning and financial analysis, including preparing preliminary construction schedules, assisting with project budgeting, change management, cash flow considerations, and providing accurate assessments of risk and scope

  • Collaborate, mentor, and communicate effectively with internal teams, trade partners, consultants, and suppliers, while supporting junior estimators and building relationships that align with Graham’s core values

The Right Tools for the Job

Education & Experience: High school diploma with completion of a college or technical diploma, plus 3-7 years of construction‑related experience, combining field and estimating exposure

Technical Skills: Proficiency with estimating, scheduling, and quantification tools (e.g., InEight, Excel, MC2 ICE, Cleopatra, Primavera, Bluebeam/OnScreen Takeoff, Agtek, BIM) and strong ability to interpret tender documents, specifications, drawings, and contractual requirements

Core Capabilities: Strong organization and time management skills, and a solid understanding of construction scopes of work

The role is primarily office‑based, with occasional local site visits for walkthroughs and project reviews. Some short‑term travel to other branches may be required. Flexibility in working hours is expected to meet fixed bid deadlines. This position is exempt from overtime.
