Recreation, Parks and Culture is seeking a Labourer II to join our Outdoor Premier Areas and Skating team. In this dynamic, hands-on role, you will help maintain and enhance outdoor recreation spaces that support sport, leisure, and community connection throughout the year. Working both independently and as part of a team, you will operate a variety of equipment, perform skilled manual labour, and contribute to the safe, efficient operation of premier sports fields, outdoor amenities, and seasonal skating facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work, and is passionate about creating exceptional recreational experiences for the community.

This posting is for one hourly position for up to 7 months

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform manual tasks including use of hand power tools and equipment (shovels, rakes edgers, etc.)  
  • Assist with irrigation tasks (hand watering, sprinkler maintenance, small irrigation repairs, etc.)
  • Learn the safe operation of small equipment (string trimmers, push mowers, drills, backpack sprayers, etc.)  
  • Operate various types of turf equipment (greens mowers, tee mowers, bunker rakes, tractors, etc.)
  • Conduct routine equipment maintenance to ensure optimal performance
  • Support team members in completing daily tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Follow safety guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure the safety of individual, others and visitors in the workplace


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with others  
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods of time  
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing situations, combined with initiative and responsibility  
  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of hand and power tools  
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, MSDS and WHMIS regulations and First Aid Training  


Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required prior to start date  
  • Ability and willingness to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting (up to 23 kilograms), standing, bending, shoveling, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement and adverse weather conditions  
  • Ability to work full-time hours within a variety of shifts
